This comes after Steele sued \u200cESPN and parent company Disney \u2063last year, alleging retaliation for her negative comments about COVID vaccine \u200bmandates and former President Barack Obama.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Settling the Case and Moving Forward<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After successfully \u200dsettling her case with ESPN\/Disney, Steele took to social media to share her decision. &#8220;Having successfully settled my case with ESPN\/Disney, I have decided to leave so\u2064 I can exercise my\u2064 first amendment (sic) rights more freely,&#8221; \u2062she wrote on X. She expressed gratitude for her 16 years at the network and expressed\u200c excitement for the next \u200bchapter in her career.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Voicing Concerns about Vaccine Mandates<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Steele&#8217;s criticism of ESPN&#8217;s requirement \u200cfor employees to get vaccinated against COVID was made public during an appearance on former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler&#8217;s\u2063 podcast in 2021. She expressed her reluctance to comply with the mandate, stating,\u2062 &#8220;I didn&#8217;t want to do it. But I \u2064work for a company that mandates it and I had until September \u206430 to get it done or I&#8217;m out.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She further elaborated on her concerns, calling \u2063the mandate &#8220;sick&#8221; and expressing fear about the implications. In June, Disney offered Steele a $500,000 settlement, which her attorney, Bryan Freedman, criticized.\u2064 Freedman stated, &#8220;Disney and ESPN clearly admit their \u2064liability by offering\u200b to pay Sage\u200c Steele more than half a million dollars for taking away her right to free \u200bspeech. The offer misses the point. Disney cannot purchase their employee&#8217;s constitutional rights no matter how powerful they think they\u2064 are.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>A Career at ESPN<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Steele, who began working\u200d for ESPN in 2007, has had a successful career at the network.
