Worrell was first diagnosed with \u2062the disease in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Worrell&#8217;s blood disease went untreated for eight months while he was in the District of Columbia jail \u200bafter his arrest\u2063 in March 2021. In November \u20642021, Judge Lamberth\u2063 ordered his release\u200b so \u200cthat he could undergo chemotherapy and \u2062radiation treatments\u200b at home in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the documented jail conditions and the denial of medical care\u200d for Worrell&#8217;s cancer and broken \u2064finger, Judge Lamberth held \u200dthe D.C. jail warden and corrections director in contempt of court. The case was referred \u200dto the DOJ for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jan-6-prisoner-who-was-denied-cancer-treatment-now-in-dire-straits\/\" title=\"Jan. 6 Prisoner Who Was Denied Cancer Treatment Now \"In Dire Straits\"\">potential civil rights violations<\/a> of January 6 defendants.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u2062 Worrell&#8217;s\u2063 previous\u2062 attorney,\u2062 Alex Stavrou Sr., the conditions in the D.C. jail were &#8220;completely atrocious.&#8221; Water was often turned off in the pods housing Jan. 6 defendants, resulting in backed-up toilets and detainees being unable to shower \u200bor shave.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width:640px\" class=\"aligncenter\"><figcaption>Christopher Worrell (lower right) gathers with other members of \u2064the Proud Boys \u2062near the U.S. Capitol on \u200dJan. 6, 2021. (Special to The Epoch Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In a 49-page sentencing memorandum, Assistant \u2063U.S. Attorneys William Dreher\u200b and Alexis Loeb stated that the DOJ would have sought \u200ba longer \u200dprison \u200cterm for \u2064Worrell if it weren&#8217;t for his cancer. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-seeks-14-years-in-prison-181000-fine-for-florida-proud-boys-member-with-cancer\/\" title=\"DOJ wants 14-year jail term, 1K fine for cancer-stricken Florida Proud Boys member.\">federal \u2062pretrial services office calculated<\/a> his potential \u2064prison time under sentencing \u2063guidelines as between 168 and 210 months (14\u201317 1\/2 years).<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Taking the Capitol!&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>The longest prison\u2064 sentence handed \u200cdown in a Jan. \u20646 case so far was 18 years, given to Oath Keepers\u2063 founder Elmer Stewart Rhodes III for \u200chis conviction on seditious conspiracy and other charges.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ&#8217;s sentencing memorandum extensively details the \u200dinflammatory statements made by Worrell on Jan. 6, as well as his use of pepper gel against the police. According to the DOJ, \u200cWorrell verbally \u200cattacked the officers for half an hour\u2063 before spraying them with pepper gel from within the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>Worrell and other Proud Boys members played a significant role\u200b in breaching the Capitol Building by collapsing the police line on the west front. When the police line guarding the northwest steps fell, Worrell shouted, &#8220;Yeah! (Courtesy \u200cof Trish Priller)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>However, Worrell did not enter\u2064 the Capitol itself.<\/p>\n<p>During the trial, Worrell showed no remorse for his actions and instead \u200dtold lies in an attempt to shift blame and portray himself as a hero protecting the police, according to the DOJ memo. Prosecutors also allege that \u200bWorrell lied under oath and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-zeroes-in-on-new-york-governor-andrew-cuomo-aides-another-accuser-comes-forward-reports\/\" title=\"FBI Zeroes In On New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, Aides; Another Accuser Comes Forward: Reports\">provided false information<\/a> to the\u200c FBI during its investigation.<\/p>\n<p>In \u2062his own\u200c sentencing memo, Shipley argued that much of the information presented by the DOJ is irrelevant to Worrell&#8217;s \u2064actual\u2062 conduct on Jan. 6. Shipley calculated Worrell&#8217;s sentencing range \u200das \u2064between 63 and 78 months and requested a downward \u200bvariance in sentencing guidelines.
