Instead of such virtues, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niaa.gov.au\/sites\/default\/files\/foi-log\/foi-2223-016.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Uluru Statement<\/a>, which called for The Voice, and its accompanying dialogue documents seem to emphasise grievance, division, resistance,\u2063 and struggle.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, one of the contributors to the\u2062 Referendum Council did say that &#8220;reconciliation is a waste of time and money.&#8221; Another argued that prohibitions\u200c against\u200b racial discrimination should only be\u200c &#8220;for \u200bFirst peoples &#8230; versus other \u2062cultures\u2064 of 50 years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>To Whom Does\u200c the Land Belong?<\/h2>\n<p>The 26-page Uluru Statement contains\u200b sections on invasion,\u2064 resistance, mourning, and\u2062 activism, but does\u2062 not give the same attention to reconciliation (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.niaa.gov.au\/sites\/default\/files\/foi-log\/foi-2223-016.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The \u200cstatement raises pressing issues of poverty, dispossession, and\u200b marginalisation. These\u2064 injustices are \u2064serious and must be addressed by all Australians.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u2063 some of\u2064 the ways of \u200crectifying those injustices seem to come from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-full-uluru-statement-talks-about-grievance-and-struggle-not-reconciliation\/\" title=\"The Uluru Statement focuses on grievance and struggle, not reconciliation.\">divisive left-wing ideologies<\/a> rather than traditional Aboriginal \u200bvalues.<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"aligncenter\"><figcaption>A general view of the Aboriginal light festival titled Grounded presented by Parrtjima at Federation \u2063Square\u200c in Melbourne, Australia, on \u200bMarch 10, 2023. (Asanka Ratnayake\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The constitutional change would create a two-class Australia, in which \u200done group will forever\u2064 have an unequal right \u2062to a voice.<\/p>\n<p>That envisaged inequality leads to serious questions. Who belongs in Australia? Does this land only belong to Aboriginal people? \u200bShould\u200d only one group of\u200c Australians\u200c enjoy certain rights that are denied to others?<\/p>\n<p>The Uluru \u2062Statement and its supporting documents imply that non-Indigenous people don\u2019t belong to Australia as much as \u2062Indigenous\u200c people.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price,\u2063 a Warlpiri\/Celtic woman, spoke to this question in her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacintaprice.com\/maiden-speech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maiden speech to \u2064the Australian Senate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of division and race discrimination, she said that &#8220;Our\u200d nation is not simply black and\u2064 white.\u2064 We are rich with the contribution of Australians of many backgrounds, \u200c30 percent of who\u2063 were born overseas\u2014and this is one of \u200cour greatest strengths as a\u2062 nation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My \u200belders taught me that any child who is conceived \u2062in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/philippines-pacquiao-campaign-vows-boxing-champ-will-confront-china-if-elected-president\/\" title=\"Philippines: Pacquiao Campaign Vows Boxing Champ Will Confront China if Elected President\">country holds<\/a> within\u2062 them the baby spirit of the creator ancestor \u2063from the land. In other words, Australian children of all backgrounds belong to this land. This is \u200cwhat I know true reconciliation to mean.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Senator Nampijinpa\u2064 Price called for Australians \u2064to &#8220;stop feeding into a\u2064 narrative\u2062 that promotes racial \u2062divide, a narrative that claims to try to stamp out\u2064 racism \u2063but applies\u200b racism in doing so and encourages \u2064a racist overreaction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:640px\" class=\"aligncenter\"><figcaption>Country Liberal\u2064 Party Senator Jacinta Price makes her maiden speech in the Senate chamber at Parliament \u2063House in Canberra, Australia on July 27, 2022. \u200b(AAP Image\/Mick Tsikas)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Foreign\u2064 Values?<\/h2>\n<p>The Uluru \u200cStatement also \u200ccontains a section on sovereignty and Terra nullius that raises further concerns.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2063Uluru statement refers \u200bto, &#8220;a spiritual notion: the ancestral tie between the land, or &#8216;mother nature,&#8217; and\u200b the Aboriginal and\u200d Torres Strait Islander peoples who were born therefrom, remain attached \u2063thereto, and must one day\u2063 return\u2064 thither to be united with our ancestors. This link is the basis of the\u200c ownership of the\u2064 soil, or better,\u200d of sovereignty.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This text is almost identical to the opinion of Mr. Bayona-Ba-Meya, senior president of \u2063the Supreme Court of \u200dZaire.<\/p>\n<p>Cited by Lebanese jurist Fouad\u2064 Ammoun during\u200d the\u2062 1975 proceedings of the\u2063 International Court of Justice (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.icj-cij.org\/sites\/default\/files\/case-related\/61\/061-19751016-ADV-01-04-EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>), it \u2062speaks of,\u200d &#8220;a spiritual notion:\u200b the ancestral tie between the \u200dland, or &#8216;mother\u200d nature,&#8217; and the man who was born therefrom, remains attached thereto, and must one day return thither to be united with his ancestors. This link is the basis of the ownership of\u2062 the soil, or better, of\u2063 sovereignty.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This\u2062 statement found its way through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www6.austlii.edu.au\/cgi-bin\/viewdoc\/au\/cases\/cth\/HCA\/1992\/23.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mabo judgement<\/a> and into the Uluru\u200b Statement. The <a href=\"https:\/\/ulurustatement.org\/the-statement\/view-the-statement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Uluru Statement<\/a> does\u200b not acknowledge\u200b its source.<\/p>\n<p>At one level, this appears to \u2062be plagiarism. At a deeper level, it raises the question of\u2062 whether the\u200d Uluru Statement \u200dreflects genuine Aboriginal values, or whether it reflects African\u200d values articulated by a Lebanese \u2062jurist.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200dUluru\u2062 Statement and the\u200b dialogues \u200cthat led to it speak\u2064 of the genuine hurt and extreme \u2062suffering of Australia\u2019s Aboriginal people.<\/p>\n<p>However, The Voice in its current form,<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australian newspaper exposed the &#8220;White Hands on Black Art&#8221; scandal, revealing that Indigenous artists accused studio staff of tampering with their artworks.
