This strong \u200bperformance \u200dhelped offset the drag from a slowing post-COVID\u2063 consumer recovery, although concerns about a global recession still cloud the outlook.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The 6.0% annualised growth in Japan&#8217;s economy translated into a quarterly gain of 1.5%, \u200bsurpassing median\u2063 estimates of 0.8% in a Reuters poll and bringing gross domestic \u200dproduct (GDP) \u2063to a record high.<\/p>\n<p>This marks the\u2064 fastest expansion \u200dsince the final\u200d quarter of 2020, following a\u2062 revised 3.7% growth in January-March.<\/p>\n<p>While the\u2064 headline GDP\u2062 data provides some relief to policymakers seeking to balance economic growth \u2064with sustainable inflation, it masks underlying weakness in the household sector.<\/p>\n<p>Marcel Thieliant, head of Asia-Pacific at Capital Economics, warns that \u200dthe export-driven momentum in growth is unlikely to \u200bbe sustained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And while capital goods exports bounced back \u200cin June as the largest falls in overseas investment are now behind us, we do not expect a\u200c vigorous recovery,&#8221; Thieliant said.<\/p>\n<p>Private \u2062consumption,\u2063 which accounts for more\u2063 than half of the economy, fell 0.5% quarter-on-quarter in the April-June period, primarily due to\u2063 price hikes\u2062 impacting sales\u2063 of food and household\u2063 appliances.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand,\u2064 exports expanded 3.2% in the second quarter, led by car exports and inbound tourism, while capital expenditure remained \u200dflat.<\/p>\n<p>Japanese\u200b automakers have benefited from a weaker yen, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/japans-q2-gdp-beats-forecasts-as-exports-zoom\/\" title=\"Japan's Q2 GDP surpasses expectations with strong export growth.\">helped boost profits amid declining sales<\/a> in China and the challenges of transitioning to electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Strong demand\u2063 from the United\u2064 States and Europe has also supported exports, and the post-COVID boom in\u200d foreign tourists \u2062has given the economy a much-needed tailwind.<\/p>\n<p>This boost in external demand, or net exports, contributed 1.8 percentage points to second\u200c quarter growth. However,\u200d this net contribution was \u2062also influenced \u2064by \u2064a decline \u200cin imports \u200cfor a\u200c third \u2063consecutive quarter, which have struggled\u200b due to yen \u2063weakness.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, domestic demand shaved off 0.3 of a percentage point \u2064from growth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The biggest factor was a decline in imports \u2064that pushed up GDP. It\u2063 doesn&#8217;t mean a strong recovery in the Japanese \u2064economy,&#8221; said Takumi Tsunoda, \u2064senior economist at Shinkin Central Bank Research Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these challenges, there \u200dare some positive signs.
