A total of 41 charges were filed in the case.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The indictment alleges that, rather than abide by Georgia&#8217;s legal process for election \u2064challenges,\u2064 the defendants\u200b engaged in a criminal racketeering enterprise to overturn Georgia&#8217;s presidential election result,&#8221; Fulton County District\u2062 Attorney Fani Willis said at a brief press conference late Monday.<\/p>\n<p>She \u2064alleged that the goal of the 19 defendants\u200d was to allow President Trump &#8220;seize the presidential term of office&#8221; beginning on\u2062 Jan. 20, 2021.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/radical-cultural-change-coming-to-america\/\" title=\"Radical Cultural Change Coming to America?\">district attorney<\/a> said \u2064she intends to try all 19 defendants\u2063 together. While the\u2062 grand jury issued arrest warrants for the defendants, Ms. Willis said she is allowing defendants voluntarily surrender \u2063by no later than noon on Friday, Aug. 25.<\/p>\n<h2>Indictment<\/h2>\n<p>The\u2064 indictment alleges\u200c that the defendants &#8220;joined a \u2064conspiracy to unlawfully change the\u2064 outcome of the election\u200d in favor of Trump.&#8221; According to the indictment, the alleged conspiracy \u2062to challenge the 2020 election results extended beyond Georgia into other states, including Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia&#8217;s prosecutors argue that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-pacs-report-over-100-million-cash-on-hand-ahead-of-2022-midterms\/\" title=\"Trump PACs Report Over 0 Million Cash-On-Hand Ahead Of 2022 Midterms\">post-election challenges<\/a> amounted to &#8220;a criminal organization&#8221; that\u2064 committed crimes including false\u200c statements, impersonating a public officer, forgery, computer \u200ctheft, computer\u2062 trespass, computer invasion of privacy, conspiracy to \u2064defraud the state, perjury, and influencing \u2063witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment alleges that the false statement occurred during three hearings before members of\u2064 the Georgia General \u200dAssembly to &#8220;persuade Georgia legislators to reject lawful electoral votes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The indictment also alleges that the defendants\u200c recruited individuals to &#8220;cast \u2062false Electoral votes at the Georgia State Capitol.&#8221; According \u200bto the indictment,\u2064 President \u200cTrump had sought the Department of Justice (DOJ) to say that the &#8220;election\u200d was corrupt.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The indictment also \u200balleges that efforts to have Vice President Mike Pence reject Electoral \u200bCollege votes were part of a \u200dcriminal conspiracy.<\/p>\n<p>Just as with\u200c an indictment filed earlier this month by Special Counsel Jack Smith, President \u2062Trump&#8217;s post-election challenges were described not as legitimate challenges, but rather a criminal conspiracy.<\/p>\n<p>When President Trump called on the Speaker of the Georgia \u200dHouse of Representatives\u200d to call\u2062 a special session, the indictment alleges he engaged in the &#8220;solicitation of violation of oath by public officer.&#8221; \u200cAnd when Mr.\u200d Meadows traveled to\u200d Georgia &#8220;to observe the \u2063signature match audit being performed&#8221; it was\u2063 an &#8220;overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy,&#8221; according to the indictment, because the &#8220;audit\u200b process was not open to the \u200dpublic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Other statements by\u2064 President Trump to Georgia officials, such as that 250,000 to\u2062 300,000 \u2063ballots &#8220;were dropped \u200dmysteriously into the rolls&#8221; in the election, that 904 people who voted were registered at one post office box address, and that 5,000 &#8220;dead people voted,&#8221; amounted to &#8220;racketeering activity &#8230; and an overt\u200d act in furtherance\u200d of the conspiracy,&#8221; \u2062according \u2064to Georgia prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p>In total, the indictment \u200blists 161 such acts that were allegedly taken to advance the conspiracy.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment also \u200bincludes multiple unindicted co-conspirators suggesting \u200bmore\u200c charges may follow.<\/p>\n<p>Besides President Trump, Mr. Meadows, Mr. Guiliani, Ms. Ellis, and Ms. Powell, \u200bthe indictment charged: attorneys John Eastman,\u2062 Kenneth Chesebro, Ray Smith III, and Robert Cheeley;\u2062 former\u2063 DOJ attorney Jeffrey Clark, \u2062GOP strategist Michael Roman, Georgia&#8217;s alternate\u200d electors\u2064 Shawn Still, Cathleen Latham, and David Shafer, former head of\u200b the Georgia Republican Party; Stephen Lee, Harrison Floyd, Trevian Kutti, Scott Hall, and Misty Hayes.<\/p>\n<h2>Document with Charges Earlier Posted<\/h2>\n<p>The 13 counts against President Trump correspond precisely \u2063with the \u2064charges listed in\u2062 a document that Reuters news service reported earlier in the day. The outlet reported that a document listing those charges \u2063was briefly posted on the \u200dGeorgia court&#8217;s website on Aug. 14.<\/p>\n<p>However, later in the day, Reuters also reported: &#8220;The [clerk of courts&#8217;] office described what\u200d it called &#8216;a fictitious document that has been circulated\u200d online&#8217; without specifying whether it was the one \u200blisting criminal charges against Trump. A spokesperson for the clerk did not respond \u2063to a request for further detail.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/georgia-posts-then-removes-racketeering-other-charges-against-trump-5464291?utm_source=ref_share&#038;utm_campaign=copy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Epoch Times<\/a> sought clarification from\u200d the court spokesman but received no response.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump&#8217;s campaign, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cancelled-bloomingdales-drops-chrissy-teigen-pulls-plug-on-appearance-deal-amid-bullying-scandal\/\" title=\"Cancelled: Bloomingdales Drops Chrissy Teigen, Pulls Plug On Appearance, Deal Amid Bullying Scandal\">statement issued earlier<\/a> \u200bin the night, decried the case as another attempt to interfere with the former president&#8217;s \u2062third\u200c run for the Oval Office.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Like Manhattan \u200cDA Alvin Bragg, Deranged Jack \u200cSmith, and New York AG Letitia James, Fulton County, GA&#8217;s radical Democrat District Attorney Fani Willis is a\u200d rabid\u200c partisan who is\u2063 campaigning and fundraising on a platform of prosecuting President Trump through these bogus indictments,&#8221; the statement read, referring to the three other indictments targeting the \u200cformer president brought by Special Counsel Smith and Manhattan District Attorney Bragg.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Willis launched a new fundraising website \u2062for her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-grand-jury-returns-indictment-in-trump-2020-election-case\/\" title=\"Georgia Grand Jury Indicts in Trump 2020 Election Case\">political endeavors late<\/a> last week, just before the grand\u200b jury&#8217;s decision was expected.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Trump\u200c campaign questioned the\u2063 timing \u200dof the indictment stemming from incidents that occurred nearly three years ago.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ripping \u2062a page from Crooked Joe \u2064Biden\u2019s playbook, Willis has strategically stalled her \u2062investigation to try and maximally interfere with \u2062the 2024 presidential race and\u200d damage the dominant Trump campaign.\u200b All \u2063of these corrupt Democrat attempts\u200d will \u2063fail,&#8221; the Trump campaign said.<\/p>\n<p>Three of the four indictments occurred\u200d in overwhelmingly Democrat cities:\u2064 Washington, New York, and, now, Atlanta. One case is \u2064proceeding in Palm Beach County, Florida, but \u200ba \u200bWashington grand \u2064jury was involved in that investigation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are\u200c taking away President Trump\u2019s First Amendment right to free speech, and the right to challenge a rigged\u200c and stolen \u200celection that the Democrats do all the time,&#8221; the campaign added.<\/p>\n<p>Alina Habba, an attorney who\u2062 serves as a legal spokeswoman for President Trump, told \u2064Newsmax that she expects multiple defendants to be indicted in this case. However, \u200dshe says that \u200dknowledge is \u200cbased on &#8220;leaks coming out of Georgia.&#8221; But, she said she had \u2063no specific\u2064 information. &#8220;I&#8221;m on standby &#8230; it\u2062 doesn&#8217;t matter if you represent the president, or if you&#8217;re a journalist,\u2062 you won&#8217;t get anything until they&#8217;re ready\u200d to leak it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She also said she had spoken with President Trump recently \u2062and wants people to know: &#8220;He \u2063is resilient. \u2062He\u200c is strong. \u2063And he really\u200c loves this country. So I&#8217;m sorry that you are trying to break \u2062him down &#8230; But\u2064 he is not the right guy to try and do that to. He is really unbreakable. When\u200c it comes \u200dto his love for this country, he&#8217;s not going to \u200dstop fighting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the weeks and months \u200dleading to \u200chis indictments, the former president\u200b has railed against\u2064 the investigations and resulting\u2062 charges. He has denounced the accusations as an unethical and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-18-others-indicted-in-georgia-2020-election-case\/\" title=\"Trump and 18 others face indictment in Georgia's 2020 election case.\">possibly illegal \u201celection\u2064 interference\u201d attempt<\/a> to bolster his Democratic opponent, President Joe Biden, in\u200b his bid to retain the presidency.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump contends \u200bthat President Biden\u2019s Department of Justice (DOJ), and other Democrat foes including Ms. Willis have timed the charges to wound his candidacy in \u2062the thick of his campaign\u2014accusations they deny. But despite this, the\u200c former president has enjoyed a boost in popularity. He attributes this to a backlash against prosecutions that he has maintained are politically motivated.<\/p>\n<p>The former president and his supporters say \u2064Democrats have been allowed to get \u2062away with similar or worse conduct under what\u200b many on the\u2063 right have called a\u2063 \u201ctwo-tiered system of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>2020 Election<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Georgia charges come more than 2 1\/2 years after Ms. Willis launched an investigation of accusations that President Trump and \u2064his allies may\u2064 have criminally interfered with the state\u2019s election results.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump\u2062 has continually disputed the election results in \u2063Georgia and other states ever since \u200bthe election. Concerns about election integrity have dogged \u2064the Peach State in the past, particularly in Fulton County.<\/p>\n<p>In \u200cDecember 2020, a month after the election,\u2062 he had asked Georgia Gov.\u200b Brian Kemp\u2063 to convene a special\u2062 legislative session to overturn the election results; Gov. Kemp rebuffed that request and\u200d also said\u2063 he lacked the authority to order an audit of absentee\u200b ballots, as the president\u200d had requested.<\/p>\n<p>Interest in investigating \u200bPresident Trump&#8217;s dispute over\u200c the\u200c Georgia election results\u2063 peaked after reports revealed the contents of a phone call between President Trump and Georgia Secretary of \u200dState\u2062 Brad Raffensperger on Jan. \u20642, 2021.\u2064 During the call, President Trump \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/7340548-Trump-Transcript-A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said:<\/a> &#8220;I just want to find \u200d11,780 votes, which is one more that we have \u200bbecause we won the state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:640px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Former President Donald Trump at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, \u200cNew Jersey, on August 13, 2023.
