The reasoning behind moving towards\u2062 monitoring police foot chases is the progressives are\u200b concerned the officers might get injured.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Proposition 47 was first passed by voters in 2014 and recategorized\u200d some felonies as misdemeanors. This includes shoplifting, grand theft, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/soros-backed-philadelphia-da-considered-helping-non-citizens-accused-of-rape-murder-avoid-deportation-records-show\/\" title=\"Soros-Backed Philadelphia DA Considered Helping Non-Citizens Accused Of Rape, Murder Avoid Deportation, Records Show\">receiving stolen property<\/a>, forgery, and fraud, provided the value involved is under $950.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Los Angeles and San Francisco have experienced increased rates of petty crime. For instance, <a href=\"https:\/\/xtown.la\/2022\/01\/26\/crime-rate-los-angeles2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">auto-part\u2062 thefts have more than doubled<\/a>, from around 2,100 to over 5,000 between 2019 and 2021 in Los Angeles. In San Francisco, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/crime\/article\/san-francisco-crime-rate-17065509.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vehicle theft has increased<\/a> \u200bover 70 percent between 2019 and 2022.<\/p>\n<div class=\"shortcode\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"lazyload-placeholder\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><strong>Ineffective Law Enforcement<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Rich Cibotti, a \u2063sergeant\u2063 in the\u2062 San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) who does not speak on behalf of \u200dthe department but shared his personal opinions, seems to share a similar perspective with Mr. Barberini.<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u2064 Cibotti said he \u2062believes that current police staffing woes can be traced back to\u200c the \u201cDefund the Police\u201d movement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u2018Defund\u2019 movement caused \u200da lot of people to rethink joining and staying in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-red-wave-of-conservative-women-elected-to-congress\/\" title=\"The Red Wave of Conservative Women Elected to Congress\">law enforcement<\/a>. The SFPD lost hundreds of officers to other departments, resignations, early retirements, and\u2063 normal retirements,\u201d he told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>The Defund the Police movement was sparked by the death of George \u2064Floyd in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Cibotti said that the election of Chesa Boudin \u2062as \u2064San Francisco district attorney \u201ccaused even more harm and\u2062 made more people leave the \u2064police department.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe\u200c effects of his tenure \u2064are still being dealt\u2062 with as prosecutions of cops\u200d are finally being dropped after years\u2064 of litigation,\u201d Mr. Cibotti said.<\/p>\n<p>During Mr. Boudin\u2019s management, San Francisco underwent a sharp rise in some crimes; burglary rose by 46 percent according\u2063 to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfexaminer.com\/news\/prolific-offenders-help-drive-46-surge-in-sf-burglaries\/article_a6c9ca7e-5a99-5673-ac81-edec4f2a93c2.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> by the SF Examiner.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2064 is also known for\u200c releasing criminals who went on to commit \u2064further crimes. This includes \u200bJerry \u2063Lyons, a man who was released amid charges of driving under the influence and who later \u200ckilled a pedestrian\u2063 while running a red light.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Boudin himself theorized \u200bthat the increase in crime was\u200c caused by pandemic-related angst. He also characterized breaking into vehicles as much less severe than breaking into residences, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hillaryronen\/status\/1359567470860800000?s=21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">virtual community forum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Cibotti said police hiring takes about two years, \u2064meaning that current staffing \u2063shortages \u200bcan have big impacts further down the \u2062road.<\/p>\n<p>He believes that a new wave of SFPD wage raises can help alleviate problems. However, he highlighted another problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSan Francisco is rather difficult politically for the police.\u200b To fix that issue, a major \u200cshift in policy and public support will be needed to \u2062help increase interest in \u200bjoining the police department,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>state are not effectively addressing the issue.
