A reporter noted an unidentified yellow liquid pouring out \u2062of at least two cars.<\/p>\n<p>The advisory was\u200b issued by the Fish Consumption Advisory\u2064 Board, a joint effort of Montana\u2019s \u2062Department \u200cof Public Health &#038; \u2064Human Services, Department of Environmental Quality and Montana Fish,\u2063 Wildlife &#038; Parks.<\/p>\n<p>Five mountain whitefish collected by \u200bFWP staff were found to contain high levels of phenanthrene, a chemical found in \u201cproducts such \u200cas oil, gas, plastics, and pesticides,\u201d\u2062 according to the advisory.<\/p>\n<p>Animal testing has \u2063found \u2063that exposure to high\u2064 levels of phenanthrene was linked to \u201cbirth defects, reproductive problems, and damages \u200cto skin, \u200dbody fluids, and immune systems.\u201d No testing has been done to determine whether eating fish contaminated with the chemical would be dangerous for humans.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/left-now-coming-environmentally-damaging-wood-burning-stoves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Environmental Protection Agency<\/a> has not officially designated the chemical as cancer-causing, but other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/humberto-fontova-putin-isnt-the-one-who-banned-u-s-offshore-oil-drilling\/\" title=\"Humberto Fontova: Putin Isn\u2019t the One Who Banned U.S. Offshore Oil Drilling\">polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons<\/a> have been found to\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/alert-damaged-dna-increased-cancer-risk-linked-common-grooming-tool-study-warns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cause cancer<\/a> in both animals\u2062 and humans.<\/p>\n<p>Five rainbow trout also \u200ccollected for testing showed no such contamination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditional fisheries testing will be conducted in \u2063the area later this week,\u201d the advisory promised. \u201cFWP plans to\u2064 target \u2063additional mountain whitefish and rainbow trout, brown trout, shorthead redhorse, longnose \u2064suckers, and \u2064white suckers\u200d as available.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The board said said that \u2063updates to its advisory \u200cmay be warranted as it continues testing.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>The Fish Consumption Advisory Board<\/h3>\n<p><em>The Fish Consumption Advisory Board, consisting of representatives from Montana Department of Public Health &#038; \u200cHuman Services (DPHHS), Montana Department\u2062 of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and Montana Fish, Wildlife &#038; Parks (FWP), has issued an \u2064initial consumption advisory on all mountain whitefish caught in the \u200bYellowstone River \u2063from Twin Bridges Road railroad\u2062 bridge to Laurel. Further\u200d testing is\u200d needed to determine the contamination source and long-term\u2064 guidance. The board may update the initial consumption advisory as more information is gathered.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Follow-up to the Train Derailment<\/h3>\n<p><em>As part of a follow-up to the train\u2062 derailment that occurred on June 24, FWP staff collected five mountain whitefish and five\u200b rainbow trout\u200d of various lengths\u200d below the derailment site\u2064 for contaminant testing. Results from the mountain whitefish tests showed levels of a chemical called phenanthrene high enough to warrant an advisory to \u200bavoid all consumption of mountain \u200cwhitefish. It is not yet known if \u2063the impacts to mountain whitefish are a result of \u2063the train\u200c derailment. Rainbow trout collected in \u200dthis area did not show \u200bany levels of contamination. No other species of fish, including brown trout, were collected for \u2062testing.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Continued Testing and Information<\/h3>\n<p><em>Additional fisheries testing will be conducted in the area later this week. FWP plans to \u200dtarget additional mountain whitefish and rainbow trout, brown trout, shorthead redhorse, longnose suckers, and white suckers as available. \u200bFish will be collected above and below the derailment site. Those with \u200cspecific concerns\u200d may\u2062 want to avoid consuming \u200cany species of fish from the\u200c Yellowstone River in the area until more is known on the severity and \u200dprevalence of this contamination. The agencies will alert the public as soon as this information is available.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>About Phenanthrene<\/h3>\n<p><em>Phenanthrene is within a group of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/after-alarming-discovery-montana-issues-warning-not-to-eat-fish-caught-where-train-derailed-into-river\/\" title=\"Montana warns against consuming fish from river where train derailed.\">chemicals\u2062 called \u2064polycyclic aromatic \u200chydrocarbons<\/a>, or PAHs. The specific source of\u200c this chemical present in the mountain whitefish is currently unknown, as some PAHs \u200boccur naturally\u200d in the environment, especially in the shale\u200d rock common in the Yellowstone River Basin. PAHs are also\u200d found in products such as oil, gas, plastics, and pesticides\u2014and are produced through combustion of these products. Laboratory tests\u2063 on \u200banimals have shown exposure to PAHs \u200bcan cause birth defects, reproductive problems, and \u2063damages\u2063 to skin, body fluids, and\u200d immune systems. These effects from eating fish with high levels of PAHs have not \u200bbeen recorded in humans.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Cancer-Causing Potential<\/h3>\n<p><em>The U.S. Environmental\u200c Protection Agency\u200c and the International Agency for Research on \u2063Cancer have not classified phenanthrene as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/company-responsible-for-ohio-train-derailment-issues-list-of-cancer-causing-substances-released\/\" title=\"Company Responsible For Ohio Train Derailment Issues List Of Cancer-Causing Substances Released\">cancer-causing substance<\/a> because \u2062there is not enough information on this\u2063 specific chemical.
