The bill will silence as well as criminalize parents and in \u200dthe process, harm children, California parental rights advocates \u2062told the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSB \u2064596 is another example of attacks on parental rights and community engagement by Sacramento\u2019s one-party political establishment,\u201d Wenyuan Wu, executive director of <a href=\"https:\/\/cferfoundation.org\/#content\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/cferfoundation.org\/%23content&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1691780434435000&#038;usg=AOvVaw0ro9rbMwDSqPu_fmXzekS5\">Californians for Equal Rights Foundation<\/a>, a parental \u2064rights group, told the DCNF. \u201cCriminalizing contest and dissent in\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/smear-parents-parental-rights-advocates-sound-the-alarm-as-bill-targeting-parents-moves-through-legislature\/\" title=\"'Parents Under Attack': Advocates Warn as Parental Rights Bill Advances\">local school districts manufactures false accusations<\/a> of disorderly\u2062 conduct when concerned\u2064 parents exercise their constitutional rights and speak up against\u2063 woke indoctrination. This\u2064 bill \u200cis shamelessly intended to target, intimidate and smear parents and local community \u200dmembers advocating for better education, transparency and\u2064 accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe education bureaucracy, \u200cincluding the California Teachers Association, has a political agenda to indoctrinate \u2063our children and demonize\u2063 parents. \u2063As \u2062such, they have no problem endorsing this bill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under SB 596, \u2063any adult who causes \u201csubstantial emotional distress\u201d \u200cor \u2063\u201ctorments\u201d a school employee, such as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/44-san-francisco-schools-to-see-name-changes\/\" title=\"44 San Francisco schools to see name changes\">school board member<\/a>,\u200b can be fined up to $1,000 or\u200d serve no more than one year in jail.<\/p>\n<p>In February, Democratic \u200dCalifornia state \u2063Sen. Anthony Portantino introduced \u200cthe legislation in \u200can effort to address \u201cthe issue\u2063 of teachers facing harassment and greater scrutiny over lessons taught in the\u200b classroom,\u201d\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/sd25.senate.ca.gov\/news\/2023-02-16\/senator-portantino-introduces-bill-protect-teachers-harassment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> \u200bto a press release. The bill aims to protect\u200d school employees who are facing backlash for \u2062teaching about gender identity, sexual orientation and Pride month, Portantino\u2019s \u2064press\u2064 release states.<\/p>\n<p>One\u200b Portantino <a href=\"https:\/\/sd25.senate.ca.gov\/news\/2023-04-25\/portantino-school-employee-protection-bill-passes-senate-public-safety-committee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press release<\/a> \u200d includes an example of such \u2062behavior the\u200c bill\u200b is \u200ctrying to prevent noting\u2062 that during\u200b the 2021-2022 school \u2062year, a local elementary school employee was transferred to a different school after they received threats for discussing\u2062 LGBTQ Pride \u200dMonth.<\/p>\n<p>SB \u2064596 is comparable\u200b to\u2064 another piece of legislation, <a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240AB1078\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AB 1078<\/a>, which would \u2063require school boards \u200dto have a supermajority if \u2063they wish to restrict a book from its\u2062 library or classrooms, Sonja Shaw, Chino Valley Unified School Board member Sonja \u2062Shaw told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSB \u2064596 is another attempt to silence parents just as AB 1078 is to silence board members and \u2064prohibit \u200clocal control,\u201d Shaw told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>Shaw added: \u201cThis \u200dis another ploy to \u200dallow the government to bully and silence us. As a day-to-day soccer mom, \u200dI had to start following bills a few years ago and \u200dthey craft\u200c and amend these things making them more\u200d dangerous by taking away the voice of \u2063the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u2064 legislation ultimately harms students because it keeps parents \u200dfrom \u2063voicing their concern\u200b against what their children are being taught, Mari Barke, <a href=\"https:\/\/californiapolicycenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">California Policy Center\u2019s<\/a> director \u2064of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-will-visit-texas-on-friday-following-deep-freeze-that-left-millions-without-power\/\" title=\"Joe Biden Will Visit Texas On Friday Following Deep Freeze That Left Millions Without Power\">local elected officials<\/a>, told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">\n<p>\u201cLike so many\u2064 education bills going through the\u2062 Legislature \u2064right now, SB 596 ultimately hurts students. The parents are being targeted but the \u2064damage is to the\u2062 child or\u2063 student,\u201d Barke told the DCNF. \u201cSB 596 is attempting to \u2063silence free\u2063 speech \u200band could be used against parents very arbitrarily if they question or\u2062 vocalize \u200cconcern or opposition\u200c to offensive or divisive curricula, content \u200bor behavior. We should \u2064not be \u2063silencing parents, they must be free to express their thoughts and concerns since they are their child\u2019s\u200c best advocate. Shutting down dialogue by threatening members of the community with \u2063fines and jail time doesn\u2019t benefit\u2063 students or education as a whole.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Across\u200d the country, tension \u2062at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jordan-threatens-fbi-director-wray-with-contempt-over-targeting-parents-catholics\/\" title=\"Jordan warns FBI Director Wray of contempt for 'targeting' parents, Catholics.\">school \u200bboard meetings<\/a> has risen as parents continue to push back against curriculums detailing \u2064gender identity \u2063and sexual orientation; in June, at least three people were <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/06\/07\/glendale-school-board-meeting-lgbtq-curriculum-protests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">arrested<\/a> after a fight broke out at a \u200dCalifornia\u200b school board meeting\u2062 which \u2062was discussing whether LGBTQ lessons should be included in \u2063the district\u2019s curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>Two were <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2023\/07\/28\/arrested-school-board-boys-girls-bathrooms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">arrested<\/a> at a\u200c Virginia \u200cschool board meeting\u200c in July while\u200c a policy was\u2062 being debated that would require students to use the bathroom on the basis of biological sex rather\u200d than gender identity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you see\u2064 a pattern of policy changes following public \u2062comments that bring \u2063awareness to district business and union politics, one can be led to believe SB 596 is a flagrant attack on \u2062parental rights,\u201d \u2064Lenice Sechrist, president \u2062of\u2062 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pusdcommunitywatch.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Poway\u200c Unified School District Community Watch<\/a>, an organization\u2064 focused on parental rights, told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf enacted, this bill \u200bwill\u2063 surely be used to set \u2018examples\u2019 out of parents who\u200b speak on issues that concern \u2063their children.
