min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The dollar \u2062index, which tracks\u200b the \u200dcurrency against its\u200c major peers, was up 0.36% \u2064to 103.23, its highest level in more\u200c than a\u200b month.<\/p>\n<p>Analysts said investors bought \u2062the dollar\u200c as shelter from concerns about \u200bthe health \u200dof the global economy, particularly \u200dChina. <\/p>\n<p>A source told Reuters that Country Garden, \u2062China\u2019s largest private developer, is seeking\u2062 to delay payment on a private onshore bond for the first \u2062time, in a new sign\u200d of \u2062stress \u200cin the sector.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, two Chinese\u2062 listed companies said at the weekend they had not received payment on \u2063maturing investment products from asset manager Zhongrong\u2063 International Trust\u200d Co.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cA lot of traders are focusing again on China,\u201d said Edward Moya,\u200c senior market analyst at OANDA. \u201cI think there\u2019s so \u200dmuch concern with just their growth outlook, with \u2063their current\u2064 property crisis, and\u200c I think one of the biggest wealth managers not\u200b being able to make [their] debt obligations is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/they-must-have-been-cheating-watchdog-group-sues-for-records-relating-to-derogatory-comments-bidens-atf-pick-allegedly-made-against-black-agents\/\" title=\"\u2018They Must Have Been Cheating\u2019: Watchdog Group Sues For Records Relating To Derogatory Comments Biden\u2019s ATF Pick Allegedly Made Against Black Agents\">big red flag<\/a>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Japan\u2019s yen was trading\u2063 at its lowest level since November at\u200b 145.35 per dollar, with the dollar up\u200c 0.26% against the currency. <\/p>\n<p>The Bank of Japan has stuck to its ultra-loose monetary \u2063policy as\u2064 other\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dollar-hits-more-than-one-month-high-on-china-fears-yen-drifts\/\" title=\"Dollar surges to over one-month high amid China concerns, yen remains steady.\">global central\u2062 banks \u2064hiked \u2063interest rates<\/a>, making returns \u2063in other countries\u200d look more attractive and weighing heavily \u200con the yen.<\/p>\n<p>Japan intervened\u200b in currency markets last September when the dollar rose\u2062 past \u2062145 yen, prompting the Ministry of Finance (MOF) to buy \u200bthe yen and push the pair back to around 140\u2063 yen. The yen is down nearly 10% against the dollar for the\u2063 year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLack of verbal intervention so far suggests that the patience level \u2063of Japanese authorities may have \u200dgone up after the latest tweak to monetary policy and the \u2063disinflation trends in the United States,\u201d said Charu Chanana, a market strategist\u200b at Saxo\u200c Markets. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cStill, traders are potentially cautious of\u2064 that 145 handle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Australian dollar slid\u200c to its lowest level since May \u200dat $0.6456 and was last down 0.30% versus the U.S. dollar at $0.648. The\u200c currency is often seen as a\u200c proxy for investor\u2062 sentiment \u200bon \u2063China.<\/p>\n<p>Sterling was last down\u2064 0.34%\u200d to $1.2653, while\u2064 the euro was 0.46% lower\u200c at $1.08965.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s rouble \u200bfell past 100 \u2064per U.S. dollar\u2063 on \u2062Monday, driven in large part by the Russian current account surplus shrinking as\u2062 energy export revenue dropped and government\u200c spending on\u200c the\u200c Ukraine war remained high.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhenever you fall through some key technical\u200d levels, it reminds traders, it reminds markets of just how hard \u2062hitting this\u2062 war has been \u2064on the Russian economy,\u201d said Moya.<\/p>\n<p>Economic data could \u200dmove currencies later in the week, as investors will\u2063 scrutinize Chinese industrial\u200c output and\u200c consumer spending data on Tuesday, \u2063before minutes from the latest U.S. Federal Reserve meeting on Wednesday.
