Chris Christie Expects Trump to Sign GOP Loyalty Pledge<\/h2>\n<p>Former New \u2062Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is expecting former President Donald \u2062Trump to sign the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mcdaniel-says-trump-will-have-to-make-loyalty-pledge-to-join-rnc-debate-stage\/\" title=\"McDaniel Says Trump Will Have to Make \"Loyalty Pledge\" to Join RNC Debate Stage\">loyalty pledge<\/a>\u200b that the Republican National Committee (RNC) requires \u200din order \u200cto participate in the Republican\u2064 primary debates.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with ABC\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/week-transcript-8-13-23-rep-jamie-raskin\/story?id=102226606\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This Week<\/a>\u201d on Aug. 13, Mr. Christie said \u2063the former president did something similar in 2016 before signing the pledge at the last minute.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe don&#8217;t know how\u2062 much he would\u200b have respected the pledge\u2062 even after having signed it. So, look, I think this is all \u2062kind of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/heres-how-facebook-flouted-their-own-policies-to-censor-trump\/\" title=\"Here\u2019s How Facebook Flouted Their Own Policies To Censor Trump\">nonsensical theater<\/a>,\u201d Mr. Christie said. \u201cI&#8217;ve made that clear to the RNC as well, way back, even before I entered the\u200b race, that I thought the pledge was a\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/under-trump-americans-have-seen-their-best-wage-growth-in-40-years\/\" title=\"Under Trump, Americans Have Seen Their Best Wage Growth In 40 Years\">bad idea<\/a>, and Donald Trump is now playing that game. It \u200cwill be broadcast by Fox\u200d News.<\/p>\n<p>The loyalty pledge requires GOP\u2062 candidates to support the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-reveals-debate-decision-only-5-candidates-qualify-for-the-event\/\" title=\"DeSantis announces debate decision: Just 5 candidates make the cut.\">eventual party nominee<\/a> in 2024. Candidates must present their loyalty pledge no later than \u206348 hours before the debate.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Christie added that President Trump could \u200csign the pledge just before the 48-hour deadline.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI\u2062 would not be the least bit surprised \u200cif\u200d sometime around Sunday or Monday of next week that he \u2064signs the pledge,\u200b and he shows up on the stage on Wednesday,\u201d\u2063 Mr. Christie said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe might not also, but I would not \u2064be the least bit surprised \u200dif he did,\u201d Mr. Christie added. \u201cThis is about Donald Trump keeping the attention on Donald Trump, and he&#8217;s doing pretty well because, in \u200dthe first question this \u200cmorning, we&#8217;re talking \u200dabout him and that&#8217;s what he likes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Former President Donald Trump looks on\u2062 during the Alabama\u200c Republican Party\u2019s 2023 Summer meeting at \u2064the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel \u200bin Montgomery, Ala., on Aug. \u20624, 2023. (Julie\u2062 Bennett\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Last week, President Trump said he won\u2019t sign the loyalty pledge, suggesting that\u200d he might skip the event altogether.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wouldn\u2019t\u2062 sign the pledge,&#8221; the former president\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-says-he-wont-sign-rnc-loyalty-pledge-needed-for-gop-primary-debate-5456114\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told\u200d Newsmax<\/a> on\u200c Aug. 9. \u201cI can name three or four people that I wouldn&#8217;t support for \u2062president. So\u200b right there, there&#8217;s \u2062a problem.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>President Trump did not name the\u200b candidates he wouldn\u2019t \u2063support, but he noted that candidates such as\u2062 former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Mr. Christie would ask him \u200b\u201cnasty \u200bquestions\u201d at the debate. \u200cThe two \u2064presidential hopefuls have\u2063 been highly critical of President Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u2064 the \u2064former \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/joe-biden-gushes-over-mitt-romney-flip-flop-to-support-ketanji-brown-jackson\/\" title=\"Joe Biden Gushes Over Mitt Romney Flip-Flop to Support Ketanji Brown Jackson\">president singled<\/a> out Sen. Tim\u200b Scott (R-S.C.) and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy for praise,\u2062 saying they were both \u201cvery nice\u201d\u200c and \u2062\u201cvery good\u200d people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In early August, President \u2064Trump said it could be \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-says-it-would-be-sort-of-foolish-to-go-to-the-republican-debate-5441753\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">foolish<\/a>\u201d for him to take part in \u2063the \u2062debate, considering his sizable leads in polls over other candidates.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cBut when you\u2019re leading by 50 and 60 points against these people, and you have people at zero, and one and two\u2014and then they\u2019re going to \u200bbe asking me hostile questions, and they probably won\u2019t have much of an audience if\u2064 I\u2019m not \u2062in the\u200d debates according to what I\u2062 read,\u201d President Trump said. \u201cIf \u2063I\u2019m not in the debates, then they\u2019re\u200d not going to have \u200da very big audience. It seems almost\u2063 like it would be foolish to do them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As\u200d of Aug. 10, the FiveThirtyEight poll <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/polls\/president-primary-r\/2024\/national\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aggregator<\/a> has President Trump 39.4 percentage points over the\u2062 rest of the GOP field scoring 53.7 percent, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a distant second at 14.3 percent, and Mr. Ramaswamy in third scoring 7.5 percent. Mr. Christie finished\u2064 seventh with\u2064 2.6 percent of \u200dsupport.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 12, Rep.
