She expressed her frustration with those who deny its existence, referring to them as \u2063having a &#8220;head-in-the-sand attitude.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hirono&#8217;s remarks came in\u200b the wake\u2062 of the tragic fire \u2062in Maui, which has already claimed the lives of at\u200d least 93 people, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/record-breaking-tornadoes-slam-midwest\/\" title=\"Record-Breaking Tornadoes Slam Midwest\">death toll expected<\/a>\u200d to rise further.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We must acknowledge that climate\u200b change is a reality,&#8221; \u200bHirono\u2062 emphasized. &#8220;It&#8217;s disheartening to see that there are still states where the words &#8216;climate change&#8217; are taboo due to this head-in-the-sand mentality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to a report by\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2023\/08\/09\/how-did-the-maui-fires-start-human-habitation-may-be-partly-to-blame\/70559241007\/#\">USA Today<\/a>, numerous scientists believe that the \u200csignificant increase in fires in Hawaii can be attributed to unmanaged, nonnative grasslands planted by individuals unfamiliar with \u200dthe island&#8217;s native ecosystems.
