Last week, prosecutors wrote in court filings that they were at an impasse\u2064 with his attorneys over any deal.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Hunter Biden leaves the \u2062J. Obviously, \u2064there had to be some public interest rationale for it.\u200b The material\u200c change in circumstance that I can discern is simply the collapse of the \u2063plea\u2063 agreement,&#8221; Mr. Raskin said on Sunday. &#8220;But when that agreement appeared to evaporate, then I suppose they wanted\u200d to formalize that the U.S. attorney for Delaware\u2064 had the authority that\u2064 he needed\u2062 in order to prosecute the case. And, certainly, \u2062there was political\u200c pressure being brought on it, which I don&#8217;t approve of myself. I think it&#8217;s not our job as politicians to be second-guessing and trying to micromanage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Some top Republicans publicly questioned the rationale for appointing Mr. Weiss as special counsel. That included House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who said \u200dthat Mr. Weiss&#8217; previous involvement in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/top-democrat-concedes-hunter-biden-did-a-lot-of-really-unlawful-and-wrong-things\/\" title=\"Top Democrat admits Hunter Biden engaged in numerous illegal and unethical activities.\">botched plea agreement raised red flags<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis action by Biden\u2019s DOJ cannot \u2063be used to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cant-be-trusted-republicans-call-hunter-biden-special-counsel-appointment-a-coverup\/\" title=\"Republicans slam Hunter Biden special counsel appointment as a 'coverup', deem him 'untrustworthy'.\">obstruct congressional investigations<\/a> or whitewash the\u200c Biden family corruption,\u201d Mr.\u2062 McCarthy <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerMcCarthy\/status\/1690049403824807939\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> \u200con\u200c X,\u2064 the platform formerly known as Twitter. \u201cIf Weiss negotiated the sweetheart deal that couldn\u2019t get approved, how can he be trusted as a Special Counsel? House Republicans will \u200dcontinue to pursue the facts for the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, House \u2062Oversight Committee Chairman \u2063James Comer (R-Ky.)\u2062 said the recent DOJ moves were an attempt to cover up the Biden family&#8217;s dealings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s be\u2062 clear what\u200c today\u2019s move is really\u200d about,\u201d \u2063Mr. Comer said in a statement last \u2063week. \u201cThe Biden Justice Department is trying to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-pays-for-growing-army-of-staff-to-deflect-hunter-biden-probe\/\" title=\"Biden Admin Pays for Growing Army of Staff to Deflect Hunter Biden Probe\">stonewall congressional oversight<\/a>\u200c as we\u2062 have presented\u200b evidence.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>decision to prosecute Hunter Biden for his alleged unlawful activities,&#8221; said the House Democrat.
