Version: 4.0.47--><h2>Special Counsel Appointed in Hunter Biden \u200cInvestigation Sparks Controversy<\/h2>\n<p>After the prosecutor investigating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/hunter-biden\">Hunter Biden<\/a> \u200c was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-u-s-attorney-investigating-hunter-biden-granted-special-counsel-status\">appointed<\/a> \u200dto special counsel status last week, various figures surrounding\u2063 the politically-explosive inquiry are sounding off.<\/p>\n<p>Delaware\u2019s U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who has been investigating President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/joe-biden\">Joe Biden<\/a>\u2018s \u200dson on\u200b financial and other matters for years, received the new status after a plea deal on\u200d tax evasion and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/intimidated-biden-brand-helped-ukrainian-company-survive-hunters-ex-associate-says\/\" title=\"Biden's 'intimidating' reputation aided Ukrainian firm's survival, claims Hunter's former associate.\">gun charges hit<\/a> a \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/hunter-biden-plea-deal-almost-derails-after-questions-about-scope-of-deal-immunity\">roadblock in federal court<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/prosecutors-say-hunter-biden-plea-deal-unlikely-case-appears-headed-for-trial\">setting the stage \u200dfor a trial<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/merrick-garland\">Merrick Garland<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DailyCaller\/status\/1690036916211568640\">announced<\/a> on Friday that he had granted a request \u200bby Weiss to be appointed special counsel, a designation that will allow the prosecutor to more easily bring charges \u200doutside of\u2064 his district. \u200cGarland said \u2064he made \u200cthe decision after considering the \u200d\u201cextraordinary circumstances\u201d \u2064of the\u200c case and \u201cconcluded that it is in the public interest.\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>Republicans, many of whom\u200b called for there to be a special counsel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scott.senate.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/scott-cornyn-31-senate-republicans-call-for-hunter-biden-prosecutor-to-be-given-special-counsel-authority\">months ago<\/a>, have broadly denigrated the appointment as it\u2062 follows an attempt at\u200b what GOP critics have called a \u201csweetheart\u201d plea deal that could have spared Hunter Biden from prison \u200ctime as\u2064 well as new revelations unearthed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-family-will-face-subpoenas-comer-says\">congressional investigators examining the Biden family\u2019s finances<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY), who has spearheaded the Biden-focused investigative effort in Congress, <a href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/release\/comer-justice-department-attempting-a-biden-family-coverup\/\">claimed<\/a> \u201cthe\u200d Biden Justice Department is\u2063 trying to \u200c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-pays-for-growing-army-of-staff-to-deflect-hunter-biden-probe\/\" title=\"Biden Admin Pays for Growing Army of Staff to Deflect Hunter Biden Probe\">stonewall congressional oversight<\/a> as we have presented evidence to the American people about the Biden family\u2019s corruption.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During \u2063an appearance on Fox News\u2019s \u200b\u201cSunday Morning Futures,\u201d Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) told anchor Maria Bartiromo that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/crossfire-erupts-on-airwaves-after-hunter-biden-special-counsel-appointment\/\" title=\"Controversy ignites over Hunter Biden special counsel appointment.\">special counsel appointment \u2063elevates<\/a> the need for an impeachment inquiry against the president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt makes it more important because they \u2064will \u200chave subpoena power \u200bif they do the impeachment inquiry,\u201d \u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6333386463112\">Blackburn said<\/a>. \u201cAnd I think everyone knows David Weiss is not a prosecutor. He\u2019s not a special counsel. Dan Goldman (D-NY) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Julio_Rosas11\/status\/1690722217779179520\">said<\/a> on CNN that the \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flashback-all-the-times-biden-berated-reporters-for-asking-about-hunter\/\" title=\"FLASHBACK: Biden's Repeated Scolding of Reporters Over Hunter Queries\">special\u200c counsel appointment<\/a> was indicative of \u201cthe <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PoliticusSarah\/status\/1690718873480286208\">true independence<\/a> \u200c of this Department of Justice\u201d and insisted that \u201cCongress needs to stop investigating a private citizen \u2062and stop this fishing expedition to try to link President Biden to Hunter Biden\u2019s \u2064conduct, when there is no evidence to support that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The congressman also\u2064 conceded, \u201cIf \u200bHunter Biden \u200bhas committed crimes, he should \u2063be charged with them. I\u2019m a\u200d Democrat saying that,\u201d while arguing\u2064 that elected Republicans would not dare make the same statement when it comes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/donald-trump\">Trump<\/a> and the alleged crimes he \u2064is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/judge-rejects-trump-lawyers-request-for-protective-order-hearing-delay-in-2020-election-case\">fighting in court<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gary Shapley, one of the two \u200cInternal \u2062Revenue Service (IRS) agents \u2062who came forward with whistleblower claims that the criminal \u200cinquiry into Hunter Biden had been <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hunter-biden-irs-justice-department-congress-republicans-32d9f33fb0d05c483d76926504d45bef\">slow-walked<\/a>, also commented on the \u200bdevelopment.<\/p>\n<p>In a CNN appearance on Saturday, Shapley\u00a0argued the special counsel announcement <a href=\"https:\/\/transcripts.cnn.com\/show\/smer\/date\/2023-08-12\/segment\/01\">\u201cruns afoul\u201d<\/a> \u2064 of prior assertions that Weiss had the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/kevin-mccarthy-singles-out-where-someone-is-not-telling-the-truth-in-the-hunter-biden-investigation\">ultimate authority\u201d to bring charges<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s absolute, unquestionable vindication,\u201d Shapley added in an exchange with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1690446192210026497\">host Michael Smerconish<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2063legal team for Hunter Biden\u200c appeared Sunday on CBS\u200c News\u2019s \u201cFace the Nation\u201d to \u2063offer their reaction to the special counsel decision.<\/p>\n<p>Abbe \u200dLowell, an attorney representing the younger Biden, said\u00a0\u201cthere\u2019s no new evidence to be\u200c found\u201d when \u200casked if he\u2019s confident Hunter Biden will\u200b not face new criminal charges as a\u200b special counsel is appointed,\u2062 adding, the \u201conly thing that will change is the scrutiny on some of \u200bthe charges.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After being appointed as a special counsel, the prosecutor investigating Hunter Biden has sparked reactions from those involved in the politically-charged investigation.
