A recall has \u200cbeen issued for green organic kiwifruit in 14 states due to a potentially deadly listeria contamination. This alarming\u200d news comes\u2063 from the U.S. Food and \u200bDrug\u2063 Administration (FDA) website.<\/p>\n<p>David Oppenheimer and \u200dCompany has taken the responsible step of voluntarily\u200b recalling some of its clamshell packages of kiwi after testing revealed\u200c the presence of Listeria\u2064 monocytogenes in \u2062certain products. Listeria \u2063can cause a severe and \u200csometimes \u200cfatal infection known as listeriosis.<\/p>\n<p>The contamination has been traced back to two grower lots in New Zealand. The affected kiwi, which was\u200b repackaged locally and sold in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fda-alert-fruit-with-potentially-deadly-bacteria-recalled-in-a-dozen-states\/\" title=\"FDA Alert: Deadly Bacteria Found in Recalled Fruit in 12 States.\">1-pound clear plastic clamshells<\/a>, bears\u200d the\u200d Zespri\u200c brand and UPC code 8 18849 02009 3. Look for a sticker featuring a GTIN bar code of 9400 9552.<\/p>\n<p>These recalled products were shipped between \u200cJune\u2064 14, 2023, and July 7,\u2063 2023, and were sold\u2062 in the following states: Florida, Georgia, \u2063Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, \u2062Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, \u200cno illnesses have been reported so far in connection to\u2063 these products. It&#8217;s important to note \u200bthat \u200cno other products from \u200dDavid Oppenheimer and Company are subject \u2062to this recall.<\/p>\n<h2>What \u2063Is Listeria?<\/h2>\n<p>Let&#8217;s take a closer\u200c look at listeria. This\u200c bacteria can cause severe or fatal\u200b illness, especially in children, the elderly, or individuals with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cdc-advisers-to-discuss-covid-booster-shots-for-those-with-weakened-immune-systems\/\" title=\"CDC advisers to discuss COVID booster shots for those with weakened immune systems\">compromised immune systems<\/a>. In some cases, more severe\u200d forms of the illness can take\u200b up\u2063 to three months to develop.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA\u2063 explains that L.\u2063 monocytogenes is typically transmitted\u2064 through\u2064 contaminated \u200denvironments during the\u200c harvesting, processing, preparation, packing, transportation, or storage of food. \u2062Raw materials, water, soil, incoming air, and even pets can contribute to the spread of\u200c this \u200cbacteria. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately \u20641,600 Americans develop listeriosis each year, resulting in around 260 deaths.<\/p>\n<p>The Mayo Clinic advises that listeria bacteria\u200d can survive refrigeration and freezing. Therefore, individuals at higher risk of serious infections\u2062 should avoid consuming foods that are most likely to contain listeria bacteria.
