Plaintiffs\u2062 cannot produce an alternative map\u2063 with a \u2064second majority-black district\u200b without splitting at least two of those \u2064communities of interest,\u201d the state \u200cwrote in court filings.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have decried the map as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-seek-redistricting-changes-in-key-states-to-regain-house-majority\/\" title=\"Democrats aim to alter redistricting in crucial states for House majority recovery.\">illegal racial gerrymandering<\/a> and asked the court to \u2062block the map.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlabama\u2019s new congressional map ignores this Court\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-judge-orders-joe-biden-to-stop-mass-release-of-illegal-migrant-children-at-border\/\" title=\"Federal Judge Orders Joe Biden to Stop Mass Release of Illegal Migrant Children at Border\u00a0\">preliminary injunction order<\/a> and instead perpetuates the Voting Rights Act violation that was the\u2062 very\u200b reason that the Legislature redrew the map,\u201d one group of challengers wrote.<\/p>\n<p>However, the state \u200cclaimed that the challengers&#8217; proposals would\u200b negate Supreme Court precedents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir objections boil down to one thing: the Legislature \u200bdidn\u2019t do enough to prioritize race over neutral principles and thereby ensure that Democrats can\u200b reliably win in at least two congressional \u200cdistricts in\u200c Alabama,\u201d the state wrote via\u200d court documents.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>What implications does the new map\u2062 have for 2024?<\/h3>\n<p>The anticipation of two new majority-black\u200c districts shifted the projected outcome\u2064 of \u200dfive different 2024 House races to lean in favor \u2062of \u2062Democrats as Black voters typically\u2063 lean heavily Democratic.<\/p>\n<p>However, with the redrawn map \u200bnow sitting at just \u200bone majority-black\u200c district, the projections have been thrown into limbo.<\/p>\n<p>As \u200dof now, the newly-drawn map guarantees that no incumbents will\u2064 face\u2063 off in a primary election in 2024, as well.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If the three-judge panel \u200drequests a new map to be drawn, the state could appeal, which would begin another round of litigation.<\/p>\n<p>However, Alabama \u2064officials\u200c have said a map needs to be finalized\u200d by \u2063Oct. 1 so that Alabama can prepare for next year&#8217;s primary.
