Babies typically cry for a reason, whether they\u2019re hungry, tired, hurt or simply in need of some companionship, \u2062there are not many infants who whine for \u200cnothing.<\/p>\n<p>While this is an\u2062 efficient way to alert nearby humans of a baby in need, the cries can also trigger a disturbing\u200d response to\u200c creatures well\u200d outside of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ex-natsec-official-evidence-for-theory-that-pandemic-came-from-lab-far-outweighs-natural-outbreak\/\" title=\"Ex-NatSec Official: Evidence For Theory That Pandemic Came From Lab \u2018Far Outweighs\u2019 Natural Outbreak\">human species<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers recently discovered one haunting predatory response was especially triggered by infant hominid cries.<\/p>\n<p>According to a paper \u200bpublished via <a href=\"https:\/\/royalsocietypublishing.org\/doi\/10.1098\/rspb.2023.0201\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Royal \u200dSociety Publishing<\/a> in\u200b \u201cProceedings of\u200b the\u2063 Royal Society B: Biological Sciences\u201d on Wednesday, these cries\u200b elicit a driving response in Nile crocodiles.<\/p>\n<p>Playing \u201cdistress\u2062 vocalizations\u201d of babies belonging \u200bto several different hominid species, including bonobos, chimpanzees and humans, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-bodys-best-defense-on-overdrive\/\" title=\"The Body\u2019s Best Defense, on Overdrive\">researchers noticed<\/a> that \u2062the \u200dnoises didn\u2019t \u2063just attract the vicious reptiles but even determined the intensity of their predatory response.<\/p>\n<p>Disturbingly, several factors\u200b were found to \u2063influence how\u200d aggressive these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/disaster-soccer-players-one-mistake-landed-dead-jaws-crocodile-local-fishermen-knew-happen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reptiles<\/a> act.<\/p>\n<p>Features of the recorded\u2063 cries (Settle down, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/peta-reaches-kid-rock-bizarre-letter-asking-help\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PETA<\/a> \u2063\u2013 \u2063no\u200b bonobos were harmed in this experiment) including \u201charmonicity and spectral prominences\u201d played a major part in determining the crocodile behavior.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers found a disturbing\u200d link indicating that crocodiles are sensitive to the\u200c overall \u201cdistress\u201d present \u200cin infants\u2019\u2063 cries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey just react, \u2064more because\u2062 it triggered some probably innate response,\u201d University\u2064 of Copenhagen \u200dbehavioral ecologist Elodie F. Many of the\u2064 reptiles approached speakers playing the noises\u200c silently, as if poised\u2062 to ambush.
