But Langhofer and others argue that such policies amount to compelled speech and violate the right to freedom of speech and religious exercise.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I do believe that the Supreme Court is going to have \u200cto weigh in on this if schools \u2064continue adopting \u200bthese policies, which it appears\u2064 that they&#8217;re doing,&#8221; the attorney said.<\/p>\n<h3>Multiple Cases Being Litigated by Alliance Defending Freedom<\/h3>\n<p>The Alliance Defending Freedom is currently \u2064litigating multiple cases for plaintiffs who have faced professional consequences for refusing or saying that they \u2062would refuse to use pronouns that did not\u200c conform to a person&#8217;s biological sex.<\/p>\n<p>In April, Shawnee \u2063State University settled a lawsuit with ADF client Nicholas \u200bMeriwether, a professor of philosophy who refused to refer to a biologically male student as a\u200d female. The university settled the case after the 6th \u200dU.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Meriwether and said the public university could force ideological conformity among faculty.<\/p>\n<p>Courts also looked kindly on the\u2064 plight of Tanner Cross, a teacher in Loudoun County Public Schools, who, in remarks at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/maryland-school-district-announces-policy-to-push-anti-racist-thinking-in-preschool-redefine-discrimination-and-racism\/\" title=\"Maryland School District Announces Policy to Push \u2018Anti-Racist Thinking\u2019 In Preschool, Redefine \u2018Discrimination\u2019 and \u2018Racism\u2019\">school board meeting<\/a>,\u2063 said he\u2064 would\u2063 not \u200daddress a \u2064student by pronouns \u2062that differed from \u2064the student&#8217;s sex. The school district \u2062suspended Cross, but the\u200d Virginia Supreme Court later \u200dreinstated him.<\/p>\n<p>And last\u200b month, the 7th Circuit remanded another pronoun case involving John Kluge, a teacher in Brownsburg \u2063Community School District in Indiana, back to the district\u2063 level to be reconsidered in light of the U.S. Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling in Groff v. \u200cDeJoy, which said public entities had \u200bto accommodate religious exemptions unless they led to\u200d &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-sides-with-christian-ex-mailman-who-sought-to-avoid-sunday-shifts\/\" title=\"Supreme Court supports Christian ex-mailman's request to avoid Sunday shifts.\">substantial increased costs<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Langhofer said ADF has numerous other cases related\u200d to\u200b pronoun use in various courts across \u2064the country and that it \u2062was the most\u200d common \u2062area of law that the organization&#8217;s\u200d Center for \u200cAcademic Freedom has had\u200c to deal \u200cwith.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This issue is very [common],&#8221; \u2062Langhofer said. &#8220;And I think\u2063 it&#8217;s\u200b because there&#8217;s a \u200blot of misinformation out there about from \u200boutside advocacy organizations, which are pressuring schools,\u2063 telling them what they can and can&#8217;t do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">CLICK \u2062HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON\u2062 EXAMINER<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Biden Administration&#8217;s Role\u2063 in the Issue<\/h3>\n<p>The \u200cADF attorney also faulted the Biden administration\u2063 for contributing to the problem, noting \u2063that the \u200bDepartment of Education has\u200c introduced new \u200dTitle IX regulations that\u200d would likely force\u200c school officials to \u200duse preferred \u200dpronouns or lose federal \u2064funding.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s\u200d a very \u2062concerning development, where they&#8217;re using the power of the \u200dfederal government to force all the school districts to violate teachers&#8217; rights and the rights of parents and \u200dto\u2063 take actions that really harm students,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s important for people to understand that the government\u2062 has no business\u2062 forcing teachers to express messages that they \u200ddisagree with and that are harmful to \u200dstudents.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A rise in lawsuits questioning if public entities can compel employees to use preferred pronouns may push the Supreme Court to address the matter.
