This incident involved a\u2062 Southwest\u2063 Airlines \u200dBoeing 737 and a Cessna Citation 560X business jet, adding to a series of troubling aviation events in the United States.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>The FAA&#8217;s\u200b preliminary review reveals that just before 12 p.m.\u2063 Pacific Daylight\u2064 Time (1900 \u2064GMT) on Friday, an air traffic controller at San Diego International Airport cleared the Cessna to \u200cland on a certain runway, despite Southwest Airlines Flight 2493 \u2063already being instructed\u2064 to taxi onto the same runway and await further instructions for departure.<\/p>\n<p>The facility&#8217;s \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-faa-investigates-near-collision-between-southwest-plane-cessna\/\" title=\"FAA probes close call between Southwest plane, Cessna.\">automated surface surveillance system alerted<\/a> the controller about the developing situation, prompting the controller to direct \u2064the Cessna \u200dto discontinue landing.<\/p>\n<p>According to a person briefed on the matter, the initial review indicates that the Cessna\u2062 passed over the top of \u2062the Southwest \u2062airplane by about 100\u2064 feet. The FAA is dispatching a \u200cteam to investigate the incident.<\/p>\n<p>Southwest Airlines \u200bstated on Saturday that \u200dit is actively participating in the FAA&#8217;s review of the incident. The airline assured that their\u200b aircraft departed without any issues and \u200dthe flight\u200c proceeded\u2063 normally, with a safe landing in San Jose \u2063as\u2064 scheduled.<\/p>\n<p>The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating seven\u200b runway\u200d incursion events that have\u2063 occurred \u2062since January, including the recent incident in San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>A\u200d similar near-collision incident took place in February in Austin, Texas,\u200b when a \u2062FedEx cargo plane\u2062 and \u200ba\u2062 Southwest Boeing 737 came within\u2063 approximately 115 feet (35 meters) of each other in poor visibility conditions. The air traffic controller had cleared the FedEx plane \u2063to land and the Southwest\u200c plane \u2062to depart.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the NTSB cited a February incident in Boston involving a Lear 60 charter pilot \u2063who failed to obtain a takeoff \u2063clearance, \u200dresulting in a near-collision with a\u2063 JetBlue flight.<\/p>\n<p>The NTSB reported that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/us-agencies-investigate-close-call-between-southwest-plane-cessna\/\" title=\"US agencies probe near miss involving Southwest plane, Cessna.\">airport surface detection equipment issued<\/a> an alert, and the air traffic \u2062controller instructed the JetBlue flight to go-around. The JetBlue Embraer 190 was only 30 feet (9.1 \u2062m) above the ground \u200cwhen it aborted the landing near the point where both runways intersected. The Boston tower\u2064 informed the charter pilot that the\u200c JetBlue flight had passed about 400 feet above them.<\/p>\n<p>In March, the FAA acknowledged the need to improve its\u200c air traffic control operations following\u2062 several near-miss incidents.
