Had his services \u2064been available in 2012, \u200bI would have sought his help.<\/p>\n<p>Shelton,\u2062 founder of the United Handyman\u2062 Association, took matters into his \u2062own hands when squatters moved into his mother\u2019s California home. \u200bNow, he\u2019s helping others in the \u2064same situation.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Shelton explained to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6323382728112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a> that after his father died, \u200chis mother decided to rent her house. When she declined a group\u2063 of prospective renters, they broke into the house and moved in anyway.<\/p>\n<p>The authorities said they couldn\u2019t do anything.\u2063 So Shelton let himself in\u200c \u2014 and stayed.<\/p>\n<p>So annoyed \u2062did the squatters become that they quickly moved out. Shelton got his \u2064mom\u2019s home back.<\/p>\n<p>This week, he\u200c told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/handyman-turned-tables-squatters-claims-hacked-system-handle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a> that he is now offering his services to \u2063other homeowners dealing with squatters. \u201cI \u200ccan\u2019t go in and remove them, but I can go in and\u2064 move in with them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>His message \u200cto\u200c the uninvited inhabitants?\u2063 \u201cI don\u2019t know\u2064 what you\u2019re doing, but this is \u2064my home now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shelton said he even installs Ring cameras in \u2062every room in the house. \u201cPeople kind of want\u200c to get away as fast as possible,\u201d \u2062he said.<\/p>\n<p>Watch the\u2063 latest video at\u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\">foxnews.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I \u2064applaud Shelton, as I know his story well in \u200bmy own way.<\/p>\n<p>The nightmare cost me thousands \u200cof dollars in legal fees and lost\u200b revenue. My squatter was a \u2064professional. Many are.<\/p>\n<p>The squatter claimed to be a downtrodden,\u2064 newly single \u200dmom needing a place to live. Her\u200b job checked out, as did\u2062 her personal references. We signed a lease, and\u2064 she \u2062paid me the necessary deposit and first month\u2019s rent. The home was \u200dlocated in New Jersey. When I contacted her about it, she offered me one excuse after another. Eventually, time would pass, and I\u2019d get a check \u200bfor \u2064the amount she owed.<\/p>\n<p>It got to the\u200c point, however, where no rent was\u2063 forthcoming at\u200c all. Concerned, I was compelled to inform her that I would be arriving for a visit. She acknowledged this but was nowhere to \u200cbe found when\u200c I arrived after\u2064 the two-and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/video-more-than-100-illegal-immigrants-found-smuggled-in-tractor-trailer\/\" title=\"VIDEO: More Than 100 Illegal Immigrants Found Smuggled In Tractor Trailer\">-a-half-hour drive<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, I found the locks changed. I couldn\u2019t get into my own home.<\/p>\n<p>I had rented the home fully\u2063 furnished, \u2064but, looking through the windows, I could see that \u2064there was almost no furniture left. She \u2064had been selling my \u2062own \u200bfurnishings to pay me rent.<\/p>\n<p>When I contacted the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/mom-whose-son-allegedly-punched-police-officer-blames-society-nypd-says-kids-going-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">police<\/a>, they told\u2063 me that this wasn\u2019t unusual but\u2063 that they could\u200d do\u2064 nothing to help. Their hands were tied. What they could do was direct me to a good attorney.<\/p>\n<p>New \u200bJersey has very stringent laws protecting squatters. It took me over six months to finally get the squatter out of my house, and still she was granted a temporary stay by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/free-speech-not-absolute-obama-judge-admonishes-trump-limiting-access-sensitive-evidence-jan-6-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">judge<\/a> \u200b at the last minute.<\/p>\n<p>During that time, I was\u2064 forced to pay to\u2063 fill the oil tank\u200d in\u200b the house to\u200b keep her warm.<\/p>\n<p>And all this because I\u2062 thought I was doing the right thing by sheltering \u200bthis woman and\u200b her family at a \u2063difficult\u2063 time. That mindset is what many of them depend on. Live and \u200clearn. I will never rent \u2063again.<\/p>\n<p>This is why I say that Flash Shelton is a hero for his ingenuity and gutsiness in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gov-newsom-lifts-calif-lockdown-orders-amid-mounting-backlash\/\" title=\"Gov. Newsom lifts Calif. lockdown orders amid mounting backlash\">taking care<\/a> \u200bof his mother\u2019s squatter situation.<\/p>\n<p>The people who moved into those four walls without permission had no\u2064 right to be there. \u200b <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/singer-ne-yo-furious-parents-push-transgenderism-children-makes-no-sense\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Common sense<\/a> says so even when the law\u2064 does \u2064not.<\/p>\n<p>That home meant something to the \u2062Shelton family. It meant something totally different to the squatters \u2014 easy pickings. To them, it was an opportunity worth taking because the law was on their side.<\/p>\n<p>My guess, however, is that \u2063Shelton was able to pull his plan off because he did not own the \u200bhome.\u00a0Had he owned the home instead of his mom, he might have \u200cfound himself in a\u200d bunch \u200bof hot water\u200d and possibly jail. That\u2064 is how this game is played. It\u2019s mind-boggling.<\/p>\n<p>We live in a time when those who break\u2063 the law are protected by the law and \u2063those who abide by the law are not. \u2062Hard-working Americans are \u2063constantly footing the \u2063bill for those\u2062 who play \u2064the system. How is that even a little \u200dbit OK?<\/p>\n<p>Squatters should\u2063 have\u2064 zero rights. And police\u2062 should be able to toss \u200dthem\u2064 out on their \u200bears once legal ownership is\u200c verified. It shouldn\u2019t take months of\u200d legal\u200b proceedings, \u200cpunishing the \u200clandlord\u200d for\u2062 the squatter\u2019s purposeful victimization.<\/p>\n<p>It is\u2063 all very backward and\u2062 nearly devastating for some landlords. It also costs insurance companies millions of dollars \u2064each year.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/porch.com\/advice\/landlords-squatters-ultimate-battle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Porch<\/a>, \u200b\u201cthere are currently several million properties with squatters in the \u200bU.S.\u201d In certain situations, if the squatter \u200clives there \u2062long enough, he \u200bcan\u200b legally claim possession of the property.<\/p>\n<p>That is why actively removing squatters is imperative. The process of doing so is complex and enormously stressful.\u200c It also ends up \u2062costing \u2062landlords a pretty penny.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the process, the squatters assume no loss or \u2062penalties. In\u2062 the end, they can just go their merry\u200b way, only to do it\u200d again to another unsuspecting landlord.<\/p>\n<p>And if you\u2063 happen to be called as a reference for a squatter and you give an honest but bad evaluation, you could be sued. So many landlords don\u2019t, allowing the cycle to\u200c continue and the\u2062 squatters\u2019 con game to go on.<\/p>\n<p>Flash\u2064 Shelton\u2064 deserves a medal. So long as our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/illinois-gov-signs-bill-eliminating-cash-bail\/\" title=\"Illinois Gov. Signs Bill Eliminating Cash Bail\">justice system continues<\/a> to\u200d work against \u200dthe \u2064very people it was meant to protect, individual determination is imperative in these situations.<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to today\u2019s \u2062America, where crime is rewarded and the honest man is punished.
