Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), chairman of \u2064the Subcommittee on Oversight for \u2062the Committee on House Administration, released records of his communications with Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), the \u2062former head of the\u200c House Jan. 6 Committee. Mr. Loudermilk first shared his copies \u200cof the \u2064communications with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/j6-committee-failed-to-preserve-records-has-no-data-on-capitol-hill-security-failures-gop-charges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a> earlier this \u2062week and alleged the Jan. 6 Committee did \u200dnot \u2063preserve its \u200cdeposition footage or documents covering any investigation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/d-c-mayor-congress-must-open-a-probe-into-security-failures-at-u-s-capitol\/\" title=\"D.C. Mayor: Congress must open a probe into security failures at U.S. Capitol\">security failures<\/a> at the Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Loudermilk\u200b told Fox News that the Jan. 6 Committee\u2014which consisted of six Democrats and two Republicans hand-picked by\u2064 former House\u2062 Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)\u2014was \u200csupposed to \u2063investigate multiple aspects of the Jan. 6, 2021 breach\u2064 of the \u2063U.S. Capitol. Mr. Loudermilk explained \u2064one aspect of the investigation, dubbed \u200cthe &#8220;Blue Team,&#8221;\u2062 was specifically \u200csupposed to look at \u200dsecurity failures by Capitol officials, but said that particular team appeared to have been &#8220;shut down&#8221; in order to focus more \u2063attention on investigating\u200c President Donald Trump&#8217;s\u2064 role in the event.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2>Missing Documents<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;Usually when you conduct this level of investigation, you use a database system and everything is digitized, indexed. We got nothing like that. We just got raw data,&#8221; Mr. Loudermilk told Fox News. &#8220;So it took us \u2063a long time going through it and one thing I started realizing is \u2063we don&#8217;t have anything much at all from the \u2063Blue Team.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Missing Documents<\/h2>\n<p>Mr. Loudermilk sent a letter (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/08\/id935967-Loudermilk-Letter-to-Thompson-6.26.23.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) to Mr. Thompson \u2063on June 26,\u200d asking about the apparent\u200c missing records.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I\u200c was \u200cconcerned to discover that some noncurrent records were not \u200carchived despite the requirements of the\u200d Rules of the House of Representatives and the resolution that established the Select \u200cCommittee. The video recordings of transcribed interviews and depositions, which featured prominently during the Select Committee\u2019s hearings, were not archived or transferred to the\u200c Committee on House Administration,&#8221; Mr. Loudermilk wrote\u2063 in June.\u2063 &#8220;Only written transcripts \u2063were \u2062provided.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Loudermilk&#8217;s letter also referenced communications Mr. Thompson had with the Biden White\u200b House \u200bjust days before his committee closed down and Republicans took control of \u200dthe House. A letter (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/08\/id935968-Benny-letter-to-WH-12.30.22.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) Mr. Thompson sent to the Biden White\u200d House on Dec. 20, 2022, includes redactions and describes coordinating\u200d with Ms. Pelosi&#8217;s office to give Jan. 6 committee materials to an undisclosed person. Mr. Loudermilk said Mr. Thompson did not disclose the communication with the White House and &#8220;there \u2063is no explanation of what \u2063transcripts these letters are referring to or \u2062why you\u2014in coordination with then-Speaker Pelosi\u2014did \u200dnot immediately archive the records with the Clerk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In a \u2063July 7 response, Mr. Thompson said (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/08\/id935973-Thompson-letter-to-Loudermilk-7.7.23.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) that Mr. Loudermilk&#8217;s June 26 letter \u200chad made &#8220;significant factual errors&#8221; \u2062and asserted \u2063that the \u200bnow-defunct \u200dJan. 6\u2064 committee \u200c&#8221;was not obligated to archive all video recordings of transcribed interviews or depositions.&#8221; Mr. Thompson said the redacted materials he described in his Dec. \u206230 letter \u200cpertained to sensitive information that needed protection and that the Executive Branch was still reviewing when Mr. Thompson disbanded the \u2063Jan.\u2064 6 Committee.<\/p>\n<p>This week, \u200cMr. Loudermilk sent a letter to the Biden White House, requesting they turn \u2063over the unredacted version of Mr. Thompson&#8217;s\u2064 Dec. 30 letter, which could reveal \u200bmore information about the \u2062documents he kept secret. The Republican lawmaker also asked the White House for unredacted copies of all communications\u2063 it \u200dhad with the Jan. 6 committee, and all documents the Jan. 6 committee \u2064provided to the White House.<\/p>\n<h2>Capitol Security Failures<\/h2>\n<p>In his June 26 letter, Mr. Loudermilk noted that his subcommittee \u200cis tasked with overseeing the \u200dsafety and security of the Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans\u2063 have contended\u200b that security failures, lack of communication, and delays contributed to the \u200cchaos at the Capitol\u200b on Jan. 6, 2021. \u2064In a report last year,\u2062 Republicans in the then-House \u200bminority \u200bissued \u2064a report (<a href=\"https:\/\/banks.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/final_report_of_investigation_real.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) assessing &#8220;Leadership and \u200claw \u200cenforcement failures within the U.S. Capitol left the\u2063 complex vulnerable on January\u200d 6, \u200b2021&#8221; but that the &#8220;Democrat-led investigation in the House of Representatives, however, has disregarded those institutional failings that exposed the Capitol to violence that day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Former Capitol Police Chief Steven \u2064Sund, who was in charge of police on Jan.\u2064 6, \u20622021, has described \u2064how his officers were unprepared for the events that day, as a result of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jan-6-committee-failed-to-preserve-documents-didnt-investigate-security-failures-republican-lawmaker\/\" title=\"GOP Lawmaker: Jan. 6 Committee Neglected Document Preservation, Ignored Security Failures\">poor intelligence assessments prior<\/a> \u2063to the events \u2063that day, and slow responses after he called for National Guard backup when the \u200bcrowds gathered around the Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>Then-House Speaker Pelosi called for Mr. Sund&#8217;s resignation the day after the Capitol breach and he stepped down on Jan. 8, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, which aired Thursday, Mr. Sund described how threat intelligence\u200b teams that work for the Capitol Police were indicating &#8220;a low probability \u200bof \u2064civil disobedience.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A House Republican has expressed concerns about the Democrat-led Jan. 6 Committee&#8217;s failure to adequately preserve all their work records.
