The clinic \u200cis part of the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU).<\/p>\n<p>Having a primary care physician is especially important to her because of her\u2063 medical history, Ms. Barbera told The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s had a liver\u200c transplant, which requires lifelong care. She struggles with\u200b anxiety and depression. And at 55, she&#8217;s currently battling breast cancer and was scheduled to undergo a double mastectomy.<\/p>\n<p>But now, she&#8217;s been\u200c told she&#8217;ll need \u2064to find a new physician\u2014one that&#8217;s not affiliated with OHSU.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This \u200cletter is to \u200dinform you that, effective immediately, you are discharged from\u200c receiving medical care at the Richmond Family Medicine Clinic,&#8221; a\u200b letter to her from the \u2063clinic states.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This action is being taken because of ongoing disrespectful and hurtful remarks \u2064about our LGBTQ community \u200dand staff.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;I Do \u200dNot Feel Comfortable&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>The conflict \u200bbegan, Ms. Barbera said, after she sent a written message to her doctor.\u2063 In it, she explained that because of her\u200d outspoken views on transgenderism, she&#8217;s faced death threats and rape \u2064threats\u2063 from transgender activists online.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I do\u2063 not feel\u200b comfortable, as a gender-critical woman, who believes gender \u200cto be \u2063a nonsense, and sexed bodies to be a reality,&#8221; Ms. Barbera wrote in the message, which was shown to The Epoch Times. &#8220;I do not feel comfortable coming into Richmond\u200b [clinic] with that\u200b enormous transgenderism\u200d banner hanging like a Nazi flag behind the \u200breception\u2064 desk.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Where is the\u200b flag for women? For children?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Though she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-rundown-gop-still-demanding-answers-voters-disapprove-of-hunter-plea-deal-liberals-capitalize-on-fatal-tragedy\/\" title=\"GOP demands answers, voters disapprove of Hunter plea deal, liberals exploit tragedy.\">opposes radical gender ideology<\/a>,\u2064 Ms. Barbera\u200b describes herself politically as &#8220;a lefty-left, \u2064Bernie Bro, liberal Democrat, registered since 1988.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And after [the election of President Donald] Trump, I\u200b guess everybody \u200bcouldn&#8217;t handle\u2062 anything anymore. And the Left \u200bis\u2064 as crazy \u2062as the Right. They&#8217;re worse.\u2063 The Right at least talks sense \u200cand \u2064deals in reality,&#8221;\u200d she told\u200d The Epoch Times.<\/p>\n<p>Still, she\u2063 doesn&#8217;t agree with the political Left&#8217;s embrace of transgenderism.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It \u200cis daunting to go for medical treatment with that banner proclaiming that \u200bwhat\u200b I am\u2014an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/walsh-a-child-is-born-with-three-legal-dads-proving-yet-again-that-the-slippery-slope-is-real\/\" title=\"WALSH: A Child Is Born With Three Legal \u2018Dads,\u2019 Proving Yet Again That The Slippery Slope Is Real\">adult human female<\/a> (calling myself that now is hateful per OHSU) &#8230; is not a \u2063reality,&#8221; she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Barbera\u2063 asked \u200cthe doctor for a telephone appointment to discuss how she could access medical care \u200bwithout &#8220;walking under a banner that seeks to negate all I\u2062 am.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After that, when she called the \u200bclinic to\u2062 make an appointment, staffers \u2064refused\u200b to let her leave a message for \u2062the doctor, she said. \u2062Then, they hung up on her, she said.<\/p>\n<p>When she called\u200d back and asked to speak\u200b with another \u2064staffer, \u2064she \u200csaid\u2064 the representative declined. Two \u200bmonths later, \u200dMs. Barbera received the letter dismissing her as a patient.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Barbera&#8217;s request for \u200ca mastectomy to \u2064fight cancer has been declined. Her \u200doncologist and surgeon now see her at \u200dother facilities.<\/p>\n<h2>Social Media Stir-Up<\/h2>\n<p>Without a primary care physician\u2062 managing her overall\u2063 health care, Ms. Barbera said she feels\u200b &#8220;very scared&#8221; and has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pence-to-blame-in-many-ways-for-jan-6-riot-trump-says\/\" title=\"Pence to blame 'in many ways' for Jan. 6 riot, Trump says\">sought legal advice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am a \u2063liver transplant recipient with \u2064breast cancer, facing double mastectomy at the end of August, and now\u200c I \u200bhave no primary\u200b care doctor,&#8221; she wrote on X, previously known as Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Her post has been viewed more than 4 million times. \u2062The reaction\u2062 has\u2063 been mixed.<\/p>\n<p>Some X\u2062 users \u2062expressed sympathy \u200bor outrage that a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oregon-cancer-patient-says-she-was-denied-treatment-after-objecting-to-pride-flag\/\" title=\"Oregon cancer patient denied treatment for objecting to Pride flag.\">longtime \u200bpatient facing\u2063 cancer<\/a> would be denied care.\u200c Others suggested she&#8217;d been wrong to object to the transgender flag. Some wrote that they hoped\u200d she&#8217;d die from her illness.<\/p>\n<p>OHSU stands by its decision to deny\u2064 her care.<\/p>\n<p>Patients have\u200d a right to care delivered &#8220;free from abuse, discrimination or\u200b harassment based on age, race, \u200ccolor, ethnicity, national origin, culture, language, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, physical or mental disability, religion, socioeconomic status, \u200cmarital status, military \u2064or reserve status, or any other status protected by \u200dlaw,&#8221; Sara Hottman, the associate director of media relations for OHSU, told The \u200dEpoch Times in a written statement.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Hottman said\u2062 patients, families, and visitors are responsible \u2063for avoiding discriminatory, profane, derogatory, or threatening behavior.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These behaviors can \u2063result in\u2064 limitation of visiting privileges and \u200cimpact access to\u2064 care at \u2063OHSU,&#8221; she\u2064 said.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Barbera insists, &#8220;I made no\u2062 statements about anything other than a menacing political\u200b flag,&#8221; which she describes as &#8220;hostile to women and dangerous for \u200dchildren.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>OHSU&#8217;s website emphasizes a commitment to helping\u200c patients.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u200d are recognized by the \u200cstate \u2063of Oregon for \u2063care that\u2064 puts patients at the\u200d heart of everything \u200bwe\u200d do,&#8221; \u200cthe\u200d site reads.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Patients should be able to \u200bsee providers who understand and can meet their diverse needs\u2014providers who appreciate and respect differences, whether ethnic background, race,\u2064 language, religion, abilities, sexual orientation or culture.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Medical Ethics<\/h2>\n<p>The treatment Ms. Barbera has endured\u200b is &#8220;outrageous,&#8221; according to Charles \u2063Rosen, M.D., president and co-founder\u200d of\u200c the Association for Medical Ethics.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Rosen also is a professor at the University of California, and his views don&#8217;t represent \u200dthe \u2064views \u2062of his school, he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You can&#8217;t abandon\u200b a \u200dpatient based on political\u200b views,&#8221; he told \u200dThe \u2063Epoch Times. &#8220;I&#8217;ve never heard<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A cancer patient in Oregon can no longer receive treatment at her doctor&#8217;s office or any affiliated clinics.
