One\u200b of these policies requires teachers \u2064to notify parents when their child identifies as transgender. The \u200dunion, \u2063known as\u2064 Associated Chino Teachers, filed a complaint with\u2063 the California Public Employment Relations Board\u2062 on August 8. This decision \u200dfollowed another policy passed \u2063by the board a\u200d month earlier, which restricted the display of flags \u200bin classrooms to only\u200c the U.S. and California\u200c flags.<\/p>\n<p>The union&#8217;s complaint also argues that the flag policy infringes upon speech protected under their contract.<\/p>\n<p>Brenda Walker, the\u200c president of the union, expressed concern that the board&#8217;s actions are causing \u2062division within\u2063 the community. In a press\u200d release, she stated, \u2063&#8221;Unfortunately, our board is\u200d creating \u200cheadlines by focusing on things that don&#8217;t benefit students and that divide our community. We \u2064are working to have [the board] rescind these harmful and divisive policies and\u200b to join us instead in focusing on \u2063things our union\u200c is fighting for, such as better support systems \u2062for special\u2064 education\u2062 students \u2064and recruiting and retaining quality educators for our community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Walker also suggested that the board&#8217;s &#8220;extreme views&#8221; may deter potential \u2064new teachers from joining the \u200cdistrict.<\/p>\n<p>The union&#8217;s\u2063 complaint \u2063comes after they sent an email to \u200dtheir members expressing concerns that the new board policy could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/teachers-union-files-complaint-against-california-school-district-over-transgender-student-policy\/\" title=\"Teachers' Union files complaint against CA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/calif-gov-newsom-announces-2b-plan-to-reopen-schools-by-spring\/\" title=\"Calif. Newsom announces B plan to reopen schools by spring\">school district<\/a> over transgender policy.&#8221;>violate state student privacy laws<\/a>.\u200c The email referenced guidance from the California Department of Education, which emphasizes the importance of \u200dprotecting student \u2062privacy rights, particularly for transgender students.<\/p>\n<p>The email instructed members to seek\u200b guidance \u200cfrom administrators \u2063if they encounter situations that may violate student\u200b privacy and provided an email template for communication.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the \u2063email mentioned a letter from\u200b California\u200c Attorney General Rob Bonta,\u2062 who advised against implementing the policy based on the \u200bsame state education department guidance.
