He is placing the same prosecutor in charge of Hunter Biden\u2019s\u200b sweetheart deal. Lindsay Graham, the\u2064 Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, \u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgraham.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/press-releases?ID=D62A5A43-6528-4257-BC15-E8E8B613FFED\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pointed<\/a> \u200b to the plea deal \u2064as &#8220;the \u200cbiggest sweetheart deal in the history of the American legal system. To allow this same\u2062 team\u200b to \u2063continue to investigate potential financial crimes involving Hunter Biden and others doesn\u2019t pass the smell test. If \u200bthe goal of Attorney General Garland\u2019s decision to appoint Mr. \u2062Weiss\u2062 as special counsel in \u200bthe\u200c Hunter Biden investigation \u200dwas to put this story to bed, he failed miserably.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Garland <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/appointment-special-counsel-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> his appointment of Mr. Weiss as Special Counsel August 11, saying: \u201cOn Tuesday of this week, Mr. Weiss advised me that in his judgment, his investigation has reached a stage \u2064at which \u200bhe should continue\u2063 his work as a Special Counsel, and he asked to\u200c be so appointed.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland announces the appointment of Attorney David Weiss as special counsel in \u200cthe ongoing probe \u2062of Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, on Aug.\u200d 11, 2023. On July 26, U.S. District Court Judge Maryellen Noreika rejected the proposed plea \u2064deal negotiated by Mr. Weiss and Hunter Biden&#8217;s \u200clawyers that would have granted Biden\u200d complete\u2064 immunity from future prosecution in return for his\u200d pleading guilty \u2063to \u200btwo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-plea-deal-cannot-be-the-final-word-grassley-says\/\" title=\"Grassley: Hunter Biden plea not the final say.\">misdemeanor tax evasion charges<\/a> and accepting \u2063probation in a third\u200b charge in \u200cwhich he acknowledged lying \u2062on a \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-decries-marxists-and-fascists-in-doj-fbi-going-after-me-in-classified-documents-probe\/\" title=\"Trump accuses DOJ and FBI of targeting him in classified documents investigation, labels them as Marxists and Fascists.\">federal firearm purchase form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans in Congress condemned\u2063 the proposed Biden deal as &#8220;a\u2062 sweetheart deal,&#8221; and almost simultaneously with Garland&#8217;s announcement, Mr. \u200dWeiss filed a \u200bstatement with Judge\u200c Noreika\u2063 saying \u200defforts \u200bto agree to a revised plea \u2062deal had failed and the case cannot be \u200bresolved short of a trial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon considering his request, as well as\u200c the extraordinary circumstances relating to this matter, I \u200bhave concluded it is in \u2063the public interest to appoint\u2064 him as Special \u2064Counsel. This appointment confirms my commitment to provide \u200bMr. Weiss all\u200d the resources he requests. It\u2062 also reaffirms \u2062that Mr.\u2064 Weiss has the authority he needs to conduct a thorough\u2062 investigation and\u2062 to\u200b continue to take the steps \u200bhe deems appropriate independently, based\u200c only \u200don the facts and the law,\u201d Garland said. He did not respond\u2062 to shouted \u2064questions \u200bfrom reporters \u2062assembled \u2062for the \u2063announcement.<\/p>\n<p>The provision to which Mr. Sessions referred is in the 1999 law that established the\u2064 Special Counsel position to replace the Independent Counsel position that had previously been \u200bused in the Clinton sex scandal investigation, the Iran-Contra\u200b probe of 1987, and the Watergate conspiracy \u200dinvestigation.<\/p>\n<p>Section 600.3 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/current\/title-28\/chapter-VI\/part-600\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">provides<\/a> that &#8220;an individual named as Special Counsel shall \u200cbe \u2064a\u200c lawyer with\u200c a\u200c reputation for integrity and \u2063impartial \u2062decision-making, and with appropriate experience to ensure both that the investigation will\u2064 be conducted ably, expeditiously and thoroughly, and that investigative and prosecutorial decisions will be supported by an informed understanding of the\u200d criminal \u200claw and Department of\u2063 Justice\u200c policies.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>United States Attorney Robert Hur speaks at a news conference at the U.S.\u2063 Attorney&#8217;s Office, in \u200cBaltimore, Md., on Sept. 19, 2018. Garland previously \u200bappointed Robert \u200bHur as Special Counsel to investigate classified documents\u2064 in the possession of the president that were found \u2064at four separate\u2063 locations\u2063 in the District of Columbia and Delaware. Mr. Hur was not a\u2064 government employee at the time of his appointment \u2062as Special Counsel.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Garland appointed Jack \u2064Smith in \u20632022 to investigate President Donald Trump&#8217;s possession of classified documents at his Mar-a-Logo, Florida, residence. Although a\u200d career DOJ attorney, \u2063Mr. Smith was\u2062 working\u2064 with the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and\u2062 Specialist Prosecutor&#8217;s Office.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Sessions and \u2064other\u2063 congressional Republicans argue Weiss\u200c cannot be impartial, having accepted the plea \u200bdeal that gave Hunter Biden complete immunity from \u200call future prosecutions.<\/p>\n<p>Conservative legal analysts also blasted the appointment. Article III Founder and President Mike Davis, a former Senate Judiciary \u2062Committee staffer, issued \u2062a <a href=\"https:\/\/article3project.org\/media\/a3p-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> calling Weiss a &#8220;loyal foot \u200dsoldier&#8221;\u200d for the Biden administration.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When this scandal got exposed by Judge\u2062 Maryellen Noreika, we now have today\u2019s special counsel appointment. Weiss has proven\u200d himself as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-special-counsel-appointment-may-violate-law-requiring-impartial-government-outsider-rep-sessions\/\" title=\"Rep.
