It is fitting punctuation on a 36-year\u200d coaching career, which included\u200b 32\u200c seasons at Sunny Hills.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gordon\u2063 was one \u2063of \u200c39 men\u2064 and women from\u2063 across the United \u200cStates \u2063feted at the July 25\u2064 induction ceremony at the\u2062 Historic Haymarket in Lincoln, Nebraska.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>Related\u2062 Stories<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/fullertons-sunny-hills-names-former-assistant-new-softball-coach-5453114\">Fullerton\u2019s Sunny Hills Names Former Assistant New Softball Coach<\/a> &#8211; 8\/8\/2023<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/former-major-league-pitcher-abbott-making-most-of-coaching-opportunity-5428623\">Former Major-League \u2064Pitcher Abbott Making Most of Coaching Opportunity<\/a> &#8211; 7\/27\/2023<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt was a pretty awesome\u2064 experience, a first-class \u2064event,\u201d\u2063 Mr.\u2063 Gordon told \u2063The Epoch \u200bTimes. \u201cThe other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nfl-browns-close-facility-delay-flight-after-positive-covid-19-test\/\" title=\"NFL-Browns close facility, delay flight after positive COVID-19 test\">coaches<\/a> were from all \u2063different sports, big-time people from every \u2063state you could imagine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gordon\u2019s nomination came from the Southern\u2064 California High School Soccer Coaches Association, according\u2064 to Dave Dougherty, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/just-in-floyd-county-georgia-terminates-election-director-after-statewide-audit-discovers-uncounted-votes\/\" title=\"JUST IN: Floyd County, Georgia Terminates Election Director After Statewide Audit Discovers Uncounted Votes\">executive director<\/a>\u2063 of the NHSACA.<\/p>\n<p>The organization, \u2064founded in 1967, is the oldest \u2064such \u200b<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-spike-in-florida-coronavirus-cases-despite-no-mask-mandate\/\" title=\"No Spike in Florida Coronavirus Cases Despite No Mask Mandate\">association<\/a> in the country, Mr. Dougherty told The Epoch \u200cTimes. He spent four seasons as \u200dthe head girls\u2019 soccer coach at his alma mater, Brea \u2063Olinda, \u2064before arriving at Sunny Hills in\u2063 1990. Mr. Gordon worked as an assistant coach for two\u200c seasons under\u200d his father, Kenn\u2062 Gordon,\u200d who had started the \u200bschool\u2019s boys\u2019 and\u2062 girls\u2019 soccer programs in 1981, and then took over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/north-dakota-governor-vetoes-bill-blocking-biological-males-from-playing-on-girls-sports-teams\/\" title=\"North Dakota Governor Vetoes Bill Blocking Biological Males From Playing On Girls\u2019 Sports Teams\">girls\u2019 team<\/a> in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next 30 years, until\u200b retirement in 2022, Mr. Gordon led the Lancers to 19 Freeway League championships, including seven undefeated league\u200c seasons, CIF championships in 2005, 2007, and 2019, \u200band \u200dthree CIF\u200c runner-up\u2062 finishes.<\/p>\n<p>Sunny Hills reached the\u200d CIF playoffs in all but one of the years Mr. Gordon was\u2064 at the school, and he completed his\u200b coaching career with a record of 602\u2013140\u201394. Named CIF \u200bcoach \u200bof the year four times, \u2062Mr. Gordon \u2062also was\u2063 state coach of the year in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe had great relationships\u2063 with the \u2062students,\u201d\u200d Sunny Hills Athletic Director Paul\u2064 Jones told The Epoch Times. \u201cHe was able to relate\u200c with the players and\u2063 the parents, but also did a \u200bgood job\u200b of holding everyone \u200baccountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure style=\"width:600px\" class=\"alignnone\"><figcaption>Sunny Hills High School in\u2062 Fullerton, Calif., on Aug. \u206211, 2023. (John Fredricks\/The \u2063Epoch Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-sunny-hills-soccer-coach-honored-by-national-hall-of-fame\/\" title=\"Former Sunny Hills Soccer Coach Receives National Hall of Fame Recognition.\">outstanding high school soccer player<\/a>\u200c himself, and a member of Brea \u2062Olinda\u2019s \u200d1986 CIF championship \u200cboys\u2019 team, Mr. Gordon developed a knowledge of \u2064the game that frequently created advantages for\u200c his teams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe could\u200b outcoach other coaches, out-scheme them, and\u200d his players \u200calways played hard, \u2062with character and class,\u201d Mr. Jones said. \u201cIt was fun to watch \u200chim coach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gordon, 54, stepped away from the Sunny Hills program to spend more time with his wife, Soon-ya, 14-year-old son, Aaron, and\u2062 12-year-old daughter, Adrienne.
