However, Ateba argues that Supreme Court \u2064credentials\u200b are typically granted only to full-time court reporters,\u200c and the \u2064criteria for credentials from\u200d the\u2064 congressional press galleries are seen\u2062 as vague\u2063 and exclusive.<\/p>\n<p>Ateba&#8217;s\u200b press pass expired on July 31, but he did not apply for a new one because the\u2063 updated \u2063rules required credentials from either the \u200dCapitol or the\u2063 Supreme Court, which he did not possess.<\/p>\n<p>After July 31, the number of hard pass holders decreased from 1417 to 975, according\u200c to a statement to Politico&#8217;s West Wing Playbook. The White House attributed this decrease to journalists who no\u2064 longer cover the White House and chose not to reapply for credentials.<\/p>\n<p>The First Amendment was established to protect the freedom of the press, and Ateba&#8217;s attorney,\u2063 Harmeet Dhillon, argues that the defendants violated his client&#8217;s First Amendment rights by intentionally preventing him from obtaining hard pass access. \u2063Dhillon claims that the credentialing criteria were designed to exclude Ateba, constituting discrimination and viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth considering the language used in this\u2062 lawsuit.
