Santiago\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>OAN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oann.com\/tag\/noah-herring\">Noah Herring<\/a><br \/>4:00 PM \u2013 Friday,\u200b August 11, 2023<\/p>\n<p>A\u2063 United \u200cStates judge has revoked Sam Bankman-Fried\u2019s bail on \u2064Friday after finding that the \u200bindicted founder \u200dof bankrupt cryptocurrency \u2064exchange, FTX, tampered with witnesses. <\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan announced the decision at a \u2063hearing \u2063in federal court \u2063in Manhattan, less than\u200b two months \u2063before he\u200c is scheduled to appear in court\u200d for his October fraud trial. <\/p>\n<p>In the hearing, \u200bprosecutors accused the 31-year-old \u2064of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ftxs-sam-bankman-fried-put-in-jail-judge-revokes-bail\/\" title=\"FTX's Sam Bankman-Fried imprisoned, bail revoked by judge.\">leaking private diary\u200c entries<\/a> of his ex-girlfriend Caroline Ellison, to The New \u200dYork\u2063 Times. <\/p>\n<p>Kaplan decided that\u2063 the\u2063 FTX CEO tried to intimidate \u2063witnesses\u2063 and taint the jury\u2062 pool,\u200b ordering \u2062him detained. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThere is probable cause\u2063 to believe that the defendant has attempted to \u200ctamper with witnesses at least twice,\u201d Kaplan said at the hearing according to media reports.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to SBF\u2019s\u200c lawyers, \u2062they intend to appeal the decision. <\/p>\n<p>Ellison\u200d was the \u200bformer head of Alameda Research,\u200c a hedge fund\u200d that SBF\u2064 co-founded. \u2063After pleading guilty to fraud charges, \u200dEllison\u200c was likely to\u2062 testify \u200bagainst Bankman-Fried in court. <\/p>\n<p>Bankman-Fried, who is widely known \u2062as SBF, was awaiting a trial set to begin \u2063on \u2064October 2<sup>nd<\/sup> after being charged by the government for conducting one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sam-bankman-fried-met-with-biden-officials-at-least-four-times-this-year\/\" title=\"Sam Bankman Fried Meets with Biden Officials At Least Four Times this Year\">largest financial frauds<\/a> \u200bin history. \u200bIf convicted, SBF will be facing life in prison.<\/p>\n<p>The former FTX CEO had \u2062been living\u200b under house arrest at\u200d his parent\u2019s house in Palo Alto, California, after posting a massive\u200d $250 million bond. <\/p>\n<p>The decision could provide complications for the disgraced crypto\u2063 mogul as he\u2062 prepares for the trial where \u2062SBF \u2062faces charges for\u2063 stealing\u2064 billions of dollars in FTX customer funds to\u200b plug losses at \u2064his Alameda\u200c Research \u200chedge fund. <\/p>\n<p>The \u2064alleged leak of Ellison\u2019s diary was the final \u200dstraw for prosecutors. They argued\u200c that by leaking\u200d the documents the defendant hoped to\u200d \u201cportray a key cooperator testifying against\u200c him in a poor inculpatory\u2062 light.\u201d <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>It \u2062was an attempt, they said, to\u2064 \u201cintimidate and\u200b corruptly persuade Ellison with \u2062respect to her upcoming trial testimony, as well as an effort \u2062to influence or prevent the testimony of other potential trial \u2063witnesses by creating the specter that their\u2063 most intimate business\u2064 is at risk \u2062of \u200dbeing reported\u200b in the \u200cpress.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Prosecutors argued that the leak to\u200b the\u2062 Times was the latest in a\u2064 string\u2064 of examples where \u2064SBF violated the terms of his\u200c bail agreement which includes talking to \u2063other media.\u00a0They also claimed that SBF was \u200cinvolved in more \u200cthan\u200b 1,000 phone calls with journalists, including 500 with Michael Lewis, who is writing a book about Bankman-Fried. <\/p>\n<p>SBF\u2019s attorneys unsuccessfully argued against\u200b his \u2064detention on First Amendment Grounds and\u2063 in separate filings, the Reporters Committee for\u200b Freedom of\u2064 the Press\u200c and The New York\u2064 Times argued that\u2063 the decision to jail the defendant could\u2064 cause\u2062 a negative effect on free\u2062 speech. <\/p>\n<p>SBF\u2019s lawyers also argued that it would be hard to defend their client against the government as they\u2063 would need to \u2063discuss \u200ba large amount of material with their client. <\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
