It also reaffirms that Mr. Weiss has the authority he needs to conduct a thorough investigation and to continue to take the steps he deems appropriate independently, based only on the facts and \u200dthe law.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2><strong>Going to\u2062 Trial<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Hunter Biden is facing accusations of failing to pay\u2062 taxes\u2063 on income greater than \u2062$1.5 million and unlawfully possessing a firearm\u2064 while addicted to a controlled\u200c substance.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, he agreed to plead guilty to the misdemeanor tax offenses and enter a pretrial diversion agreement. However, the deal collapsed in \u200dcourt on July 26 under the scrutiny of U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika.<\/p>\n<p>Now, it appears that Hunter Biden is heading to trial after all. In a court \u2064filing, \u2062Mr. Weiss revealed that the plea negotiations had reached an impasse since the court hearing and asked the judge to dismiss the case so he could pursue \u2064a verdict in another venue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVenue for these \u2062offenses does not lie in Delaware,\u201d Mr. Weiss argued.\u2062 \u201cRather, venue for these offenses and any other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-campaign-reacts-to-appointment-of-hunter-biden-special-counsel\/\" title=\"Trump campaign responds to Hunter Biden special counsel appointment.\">related tax offenses lies<\/a> either in the Central District of California or \u2063in the District of Columbia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr.\u2064 Biden has until noon on Aug. 14 to file his response.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Candidates Weigh In<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>President Trump\u2019s campaign was not the only one to express concerns about Mr. Weiss\u2019 appointment. Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley also voiced her distrust\u200c of the Department of\u2064 Justice and the appointment of the special counsel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that this \u200dwas meant to be a distraction,\u201d she said. \u2062\u201cIt\u2019s not a distraction. I think the Bidens are on\u200c a sinking\u2063 ship.
