Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), has written a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, urging the\u200d Department of Justice to conduct an investigation into Supreme \u2063Court Justice\u2063 Clarence Thomas.<\/p>\n<p>The letter follows a recent report by ProPublica, published on Thursday, which alleges \u2064that Thomas has accepted numerous luxury vacations and extravagant gifts that were previously undisclosed. According\u200b to \u2062the report, Thomas has\u2062 enjoyed at least\u2064 38 vacations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-democrats-call-on-justice-department-to-investigate-clarence-thomas\/\" title=\"House Democrats urge DOJ to probe Clarence Thomas.\">26 \u200binternational private jet flights<\/a>\u200b (plus an additional \u200beight by helicopter), 12 VIP passes to sporting \u200bevents, \u200band two resort stays \u2064during his tenure on\u2064 the court. The report also uncovers his\u2063 connections to several \u200bbillionaire benefactors.<\/p>\n<h3>Democrats Argue Violations \u200bof Ethics\u200b in Government Act<\/h3>\n<p>Democrats argue that Thomas \u2064has failed to disclose this information for decades, in violation of the\u200b Ethics in Government\u200d Act of 1978. They emphasize\u2064 that such violations can \u200dcarry both civil\u200c and \u2062criminal legal penalties.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Justice Thomas&#8217;s consistent \u200bfailure to\u200d disclose gifts \u2063and benefits from industry magnates and wealthy, politically active executives highlights a blatant disregard for judicial ethics as \u2062well \u2064as apparent legal violations,&#8221;\u200b state\u200b the Democrats in their \u2063letter. &#8220;No individual, \u200dregardless of their position or stature, should be exempt from legal\u200b scrutiny for lawbreaking.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In \u200caddition\u200c to Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, the letter is\u200d signed by Reps. Jerry \u200dNadler (D-NY), Jamie \u2062Raskin (D-MD), Ted Lieu (D-CA), and\u200b Hank Johnson (D-GA).<\/p>\n<p>ProPublica had\u200d previously\u200d reported earlier this year that \u2062Thomas had \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/justice-clarence-thomas-denies-wrongdoing-after-propublica-hit-piece\/\" title=\"Justice Clarence Thomas Denies Wrongdoing After ProPublica Hit Piece\">accepted luxury trips<\/a> and\u200b gifts from\u200b billionaire GOP donor Harlan Crow, which were not \u2063disclosed in his financial forms. The outlet also published an\u200c article detailing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/justice-samuel-alito-accepted-luxury-vacation-from-billionaire-with-cases-before-supreme-court-report\/\" title=\"Justice Samuel Alito reportedly accepted luxury vacation from billionaire with cases before Supreme Court.\">luxury fishing trip<\/a> that Justice Samuel Alito accepted in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The\u2063 integrity of our judicial system hinges \u200don the impartiality and transparency of its members,&#8221; write the lawmakers. &#8220;As a Supreme Court justice and high constitutional officer, Justice Thomas \u200cshould be held\u2064 to the \u2064highest standard, \u2063not the lowest\u2014and\u200c he\u200b certainly shouldn&#8217;t be allowed to violate\u2063 federal law.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cassie Severino,\u2064 leader of the Judicial Crisis Network and \u200ba former clerk for Thomas, responded on social media, stating, &#8220;If you had a team of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-gop-silent-on-latest-clarence-thomas-claims-while-democrats-urge-supreme-court-reforms\/\" title=\"Senate Republicans remain silent on the recent allegations against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, while Democrats are calling for reforms within the Supreme Court.\">journalists constantly digging<\/a> for supposed &#8216;ethics&#8217; violations involving Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, \u2064Jackson, or Ginsburg and Breyer\u200b when they were on the Court,\u2064 you would\u200d find the same and more.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But \u200bleft-wing dark \u2064money backed ProPublica is \u200bsingularly interested in targeting\u200d the conservatives on the Court,\u200b and Justice Thomas is their number #1 target \u2063because\u2064 the Left hates him the \u2062most,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">Click here<\/a> to read more from The Washington Examiner.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AOC and House Democrats penned a letter to AG Garland urging a DOJ probe into Justice Thomas.
