This law\u2063 prohibits the union from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tennessee-teachers-union-drops-lawsuit-demanding-right-to-deduct-fees-from-paychecks\/\" title=\"TN Teachers' Union Abandons Lawsuit for Paycheck Fee Deductions\">deducting association fees<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/betsy-mccaughey-teachers-union-thuggery\/\" title=\"Betsy McCaughey: Teachers Union Thuggery\">teachers&#8217; paychecks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Tennessee Education Association, representing over \u200c45,000 teachers,\u2062 chose to dismiss the lawsuit after a three-judge panel \u2064denied their \u200bmotion to temporarily block the\u2064 law.<\/p>\n<p>Following the union&#8217;s voluntary offer to\u2062 dismiss the suit, the court <a href=\"https:\/\/tennesseestar.com\/justice\/tennessee-education-association-files-to-dismiss-its-suit-against-law-banning-dues-deduction-from-paychecks\/sberry\/2023\/08\/10\/\">ordered<\/a> its dismissal without prejudice.<\/p>\n<p>The law not only prohibits paycheck deductions but \u2063also <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/tennessee-teacher-lawsuit-8fa4e2a6c42215d825064bc72fcfca36\">raises<\/a> the minimum salary\u200c for teachers to $50,000 by the \u20622026-2027 school year.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the union withdrawing its suit, the court <a href=\"https:\/\/tennesseestar.com\/education\/court-denies-tennessee-teachers-union-request-to-block-law-banning-dues-deduction-from-paychecks\/sberry\/2023\/08\/03\/\">stated<\/a> that the union&#8217;s arguments were unlikely to succeed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We hold \u200bthat the Plaintiffs are unlikely to succeed on the merits of either claim,&#8221; the court \u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/tennesseestar.com\/education\/court-denies-tennessee-teachers-union-request-to-block-law-banning-dues-deduction-from-paychecks\/sberry\/2023\/08\/03\/\">said<\/a>.\u2062 &#8220;Plaintiffs have failed to show that the Act substantially impairs either set of contracts implicated by\u200b the change in the payroll deduction process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Initially, the union argued that the law was unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sliding a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tennessee-teachers-union-drops-lawsuit-demanding-right-to-deduct-fees-from-paychecks-2\/\" title=\"TN Teachers Union Drops Lawsuit Seeking Paycheck Deduction Rights\">payroll\u2063 dues deduction ban<\/a> in a bill to raise the minimum\u200d pay was\u200b a cynical \u2064attack on Tennessee teachers,&#8221; expressed Tennessee Education Association president Tanya Coats <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/tennessee-teacher-lawsuit-8fa4e2a6c42215d825064bc72fcfca36\">in June<\/a>. &#8220;The ban was mean-spirited,\u200d and the way \u2062it \u2064passed was unconstitutional.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The union has invested millions of dollars in political\u2063 lobbying. J.C. Bowman, the\u2062 executive director of a non-partisan teachers&#8217; association called Professional Educators of Tennessee, <a href=\"https:\/\/tennesseestar.com\/education\/tennessee-education-association-spent-millions-on-political-lobbying-over-past-decade\/sberry\/2023\/07\/28\/\">stated<\/a> that the majority of the\u200d funds go towards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/iowa-republicans-push-to-halt-woke-agenda-in-state-universities\/\" title=\"Iowa Republicans push to halt \u2018woke agenda\u2019 in state universities\">supporting left-leaning<\/a> causes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Teachers\u2063 unions consistently rank among the top spenders on politics,&#8221; Bowman <a href=\"https:\/\/tennesseestar.com\/education\/tennessee-education-association-spent-millions-on-political-lobbying-over-past-decade\/sberry\/2023\/07\/28\/\">told<\/a> the <em>Tennessee Star<\/em>. \u200c&#8221;Their goal is not improved public \u2063education,\u200c but rather power, money, and influence. Most\u2062 of \u200bthose dollars go to candidates on the \u200dleft.
