Weiss himself <a href=\"http:\/\/denied-charging-authority.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> that he had \u201cnever been denied \u2064the authority to bring charges \u200bin any jurisdiction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Again, why would\u2063 Weiss be\u200c bestowed with special powers he already possesses?<\/p>\n<p>Was the naming of special \u200ccounsel hastened by the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/08\/09\/joe-biden-absolutely-benefited-from-hunters-foreign-business\/\">revelation<\/a> that\u200d when Biden Inc. received big payouts from foreigners, Vice President\u200b Joe was \u2014 by complete happenstance, no doubt \u2014 also having dinners with the beneficiaries? Or was it\u2062 the revelation that Joe allegedly got on the phone at least 20 times to chit-chat <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/08\/01\/defenders-of-joe-bidens-corrupt-phone-calls-sound-ridiculous\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">about the weather<\/a> and whatnot with foreign entities that are putting millions of dollars in\u200d the bank accounts of his extended family?<\/p>\n<p>No, it was allegedly due to the \u2063Hunter plea deal falling apart. And yet, the DOJ hasn\u2019t even bothered indicting the younger Biden \u200con \u200bthose charges. What Weiss\u2019s new\u2062 designation might allow him to do, however, is avoid fully testifying \u200din front of the House Judiciary Committee next month about an open investigation and his own role in it.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll\u200c see. Whatever\u2062 the case, if the new inquiry \u2062into the Bidens were either impartial \u2063or serious,\u2062 Weiss \u200dwould not be the special counsel.<\/p>\n<p>First off, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/ag-garland-press-statement-at-1215-p-m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Andrew McCarthy<\/a> \u2062and others have pointed out, legally, a special counsel should not\u200d only be a person with a \u201creputation\u200b for integrity and \u2062impartial decisionmaking\u201d but a person who isn\u2019t working for the administration. As the relevant part of the special counsel law <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/cfr\/text\/28\/600.3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explicitly<\/a> says: \u201cThe Special Counsel shall be selected from outside the United States Government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then again, whether Weiss\u2019s appointment is legal or not, the entire idea \u200bof a special counsel\u2063 \u2013 and I\u2019m no fan, in general \u2014 is to conduct an independent investigation when cases are hampered by \u200cconflicts of interest. \u2064Yet here\u2064 we \u2063are.<\/p>\n<p>Weiss has \u2064already slow-walked the investigation to ensure the statute of\u200d limitations had lapsed on Hunter\u2019s most egregious tax and FARA charges.<\/p>\n<p>Weiss signed \u2064off on a plea deal that would have granted Hunter immunity for charges related to \u2064guns, taxes, and who knows what else, ensuring that the president also avoided scrutiny. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/garlands-special-counsel-gambit-confirms-hunter-investigation-was-always-shady\/\" title=\"Garland's move confirms shady nature of Hunter investigation.\">unprecedentedly wide-ranging deal<\/a> was so ridiculous that Judge\u200c Maryellen Noreika \u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/27\/how-a-federal-judge-turned-the-tables-on-hunter-bidens-plea-deal\/\">nixed<\/a> it.<\/p>\n<p>Weiss\u2019s public contentions regarding his role, in that case,\u200b have been <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/07\/20\/its-increasingly-clear-the-feds-were-protecting-joe-biden-not-hunter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contradicted<\/a> by credible IRS whistleblowers. \u2062They testified \u2063under oath that the prosecutor told them \u200che asked to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dojs-top-national-security-lawyer-slammed-investigation-into-government-wrongdoing-in-surveillance-of-trump-aide\/\" title=\"DOJ\u2019s Top National Security Lawyer Slammed Investigation Into Government Wrongdoing in Surveillance of Trump Aide\">appointed special counsel<\/a> at least twice and that he sought to\u2063 bring federal charges against \u200cHunter\u2062 in California and DC but was consistently turned \u200bdown by Biden\u2019s DOJ.<\/p>\n<p>Each of these incidents should disqualify Weiss from being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/infographic-timeline-of-the-durham-investigation\/\" title=\"Infographic: Timeline of the Durham Investigation\">named special counsel<\/a>. And yet \u2063here we are.
