Version: 4.0.47--><h2>Orders for New 486-Horsepower Mustang \u200dAre Through the Roof as Muscle Car Fans Resist EV\u2062 Push<\/h2>\n<p>New versions of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ford-restores-beloved-mustang-dad-sold-help-pay-wifes-medical-bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mustang<\/a> muscle car will begin shipping next week and more than two thirds of the \u200corders include the big, 5-liter V-8 engine, Ford said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Demand\u2062 for roaring\u2064 engines remains strong in an era when Detroit automakers are \u200dstarting to phase out the rumbling gas burners and transition to electric vehicles\u200d in order to meet strict government emissions and fuel \u200beconomy requirements.<\/p>\n<p>The results of that\u200d push towards electric vehicles \u200chave \u2063been mixed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/software-glitch-turning-pricey-new-electric-mustangs-useless-bricks-hints-major-problem-modern-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at best<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There are about 13,000\u2062 U.S. orders for \u200bthe 2024 Mustangs, Ford \u200bsays, which also can\u200b be\u200c equipped with a four-cylinder turbocharged engine.<\/p>\n<p>Of those orders, 67 percent have the V-8, \u2063and more than a quarter of the \u2064people seeking that Mustang want the six-speed manual transmission, spokesman Mike Levine says.<\/p>\n<p>But muscle cars, at least new ones, appear \u200dto be on the way out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/joe-biden-slurs-way-opening-remarks-uh-cause-ellen-general-motors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General Motors<\/a> announced in March that \u200dit will stop making\u2062 the Chevrolet \u200bCamaro early next year as \u2063a 2024 \u2062model. \u200cThe company wouldn\u2019t rule out a\u2063 replacement for the Camaro \u200bat a future date.<\/p>\n<p>Stellantis, formerly Fiat Chrysler, will stop\u200d making gas versions of the Dodge Challenger and \u2064Charger muscle cars by the end of this\u200d year.<\/p>\n<p>But the company \u200chas plans\u2062 to roll \u200cout a \u200cbattery-powered Charger performance car \u2063sometime in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Levine wouldn\u2019t say whether this version of \u2062the Mustang would be the company\u2019s last\u200d gas-powered \u200dmuscle\u2062 car.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat remains to\u200c be seen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>There\u200c also \u2063could be an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-electric-mustang-lasted-6-months-without-dangerous-complications-ford-announces-major-ev-recall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">electric Mustang sports car<\/a> \u200cin the future.<\/p>\n<p>Electric\u200b cars, with \u200dinstant torque and a low \u2062center of gravity, often are faster and handle better than internal combustion vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>People are going for V-8 Mustangs\u2063 with stick shifts \u2064in part because they may be\u2062 the last of the gas-powered muscle car era, said Guidehouse Insights eMobility analyst Sam \u200dAbuelsamid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most hard-core \u2062fans, they\u2019re going to go out and \u200bgrab one\u2062 of these because\u200b you don\u2019t know when it\u2019s going to end,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>When a new\u200b Mustang comes out, the V-8 order rate is almost always higher than the other available engines, as is the demand for manual transmissions, because \u200dfervent Mustang fans are often \u2064the first to order, Abuelsamid said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe tend to see more demand from enthusiasts for the \u200dV-8 whenever an all-new Mustang is introduced,\u201d Jim Owens, Mustang brand\u200c manager, \u2062said in a prepared statement.<\/p>\n<p>The new Mustang, which is on the same underpinnings as \u2062the current version, is built at a factory\u200b in Flat Rock, \u2062Michigan,\u200b south of Detroit.
