By doing \u200bthat, he \u200d&#8221;crossed\u2064 a line,&#8221; they argued.<\/p>\n<p>The 31-year-old has pleaded not guilty to stealing billions of dollars in FTX\u200b customer funds to plug \u2062losses at his\u200c Alameda Research fund. Ms. Ellison had served as the chief executive of the hedge fund before the two companies collapsed last year.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers\u200b for Mr. \u2063Bankman-Fried said that prosecutors mischaracterized his intentions in handing Ms.\u200d Ellison&#8217;s writings to the NY \u2062Times, claiming he was\u200b trying to defend his reputation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In support of its theory that Mr.\u200b Bankman-Fried &#8216;tampered&#8217; with witnesses,\u2064 the Government proffers evidence that consists of innuendo, speculation, and scant \u200bfacts,&#8221; his lawyers\u200c wrote, according to\u200c The Associated Press. &#8220;The Government\u2019s showing is \u2064a far\u200d cry from the evidence\u2062 presented in\u2064 cases in this district where remand\u200d has been ordered \u200bin connection\u2064 with alleged \u200cwitness tampering, and \u200din no way supports revocation of \u200dMr. Bankman-Fried\u2019s bail.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But prosecutors said that despite revised \u200cbail conditions that included restricted smartphone and internet \u2063usage, he still tried \u2064to allegedly\u200d leak\u2063 information to the press.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFaced with a series of conditions meant to limit the defendant\u2019s use of\u200d the internet\u200d and the phone, the defendant pivoted to in-person machinations,\u201d prosecutors \u2064had argued last month (pdf).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant\u2019s purpose in sharing\u2064 these materials is plain,\u201d prosecutors also wrote. \u201cBy \u2064selectively sharing certain <a title=\"No One Will Be Held Accountable For Illegally Leaking Billionaire Tax Documents. That Should Scare Everyone.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-one-will-be-held-accountable-for-illegally-leaking-billionaire-tax-documents-that-should-scare-everyone\/\">private documents<\/a>,\u201d \u2063he allegedly \u200dtried to taint the upcoming jury pool and characterize\u2062 Ms.\u200d Ellison as \u200c\u201ca jilted lover who perpetrated these crimes \u200calone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At a July 26 hearing, Mr. Kaplan had restricted Mr. Bankman-Fried\u200b from speaking\u2063 publicly about\u2064 his\u200d case and asked both sides to address \u200bwhether\u200b jail was necessary. The gag order has\u200d drawn attention from news\u200b media, including the NY Times, which \u2064in an\u200c Aug. 2 letter to the judge said the measure \u200dshould\u200b be\u200c loosened to only \u2064restrict comments that could interfere with a <a title=\"Schumer on Impeachment: Senate will conduct a timely and fair trial\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/schumer-on-impeachment-senate-will-conduct-a-timely-and-fair-trial\/\">fair trial<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A July\u200b 20 article\u2062 in the NY\u2064 Times contained excerpts from Ms. Ellison&#8217;s personal Google documents prior to FTX&#8217;s collapse. She described being &#8220;unhappy and overwhelmed&#8221; with \u2063her job and feeling &#8220;hurt\/rejected&#8221; from her personal breakup with\u200b Mr. Bankman-Fried.<\/p>\n<p>The judge&#8217;s decision Friday comes weeks after the federal government dropped a\u2064 campaign\u200d finance\u200b violation charge against Mr.\u200d Bankman-Fried. In a July 26 \u200cletter to the judge, the U.S.\u200c Attorney\u2019s \u200dOffice in Manhattan stated\u200d that they wouldn\u2019t pursue the charge of conspiracy\u200c to \u2062<a title=\"Judge jails Sam Bankman-Fried for alleged witness tampering.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-judge-orders-sam-bankman-fried-to-jail-for-alleged-witness-tampering\/\">complete unlawful\u200d campaign contributions<\/a> and said \u200bthat they did not receive\u2062 permission from the Bahamian government\u2064 for that \u2064charge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe\u200d Government has been informed that \u2062The Bahamas notified the\u2063 United States earlier today that The \u200bBahamas did\u2062 not intend to extradite \u2064the defendant on the campaign contributions\u2063 count,\u201d U.S. Attorney\u2062 Damian Williams wrote \u200bin the letter. \u201cAccordingly, in \u200ckeeping with its treaty obligations to The Bahamas, the Government does not intend to proceed\u2062 to \u200dtrial on the <a title=\"FTX's Sam Bankman-Fried cleared of campaign finance charge by federal prosecutors.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-prosecutors-drop-campaign-finance-charge-against-ftxs-sam-bankman-fried\/\">campaign contributions count<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Donations<\/h2>\n<p>It was \u200bpreviously reported that Mr. Bankman-Fried was a significant \u200cdonor to the Democrat Party.
