If that means he can\u2019t say exactly\u2062 what he\u200c wants to say about witnesses in this\u200b case, that\u2019s how it has to be,\u201d the Obama appointee <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kyledcheney\/status\/1690005619346948096?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> in comments transcribed by reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has repeatedly \u2062labeled the cases \u2062against him, including\u200c the most recent conspiracy and \u2063obstruction charges from Special Counsel Jack\u2063 Smith, as an attempt to interfere\u2062 in the 2024 election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you \u2063look at what\u2019s happening, this \u2063is a persecution of \u200ba political opponent,\u201d Trump said as he departed Washington D.C. last week \u200dafter pleading not guilty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the persecution of the person that \u2063is leading by very, \u200cvery \u2063substantial numbers in the\u2064 Republican primary\u2064 and leading Biden by a lot. So if you can\u2019t beat him, you persecute him or you prosecute him. Lauro specifically \u200bdeclared\u2063 that Trump \u201ccan\u2019t be subject to\u200c some kind\u2064 of contempt trap\u201d and that \u2063the protective\u200b order\u2062 demanded\u2063 by federal prosecutors would give President Joe\u2063 Biden a political \u201cadvantage\u201d in the\u2064 2024 race.<\/p>\n<p>He was quickly silenced by Chutkan, who, moments after guaranteeing 2024 meddling, said she \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kyledcheney\/status\/1690006673174175744?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cannot \u200cand will not factor into my decision<\/a>\u201d how the\u2064 order would affect \u2064the election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe risk is that someone can say something in the\u200b course of a heated debate\u200d or a heated\u2064 campaign and [prosecutors] are going\u2063 to \u200bthrow a flag,\u201d Lauro \u200dreiterated, noting Trump was personally concerned that\u2063 some of his campaign statements \u2063would be painted as witness intimidation.<\/p>\n<p>Chutkan concluded by deeming\u2063 \u201call\u201d\u2063 of Trump\u2019s \u201cbehavior and statements are governed by conditions of\u2062 release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a\u200c criminal defendant.
