He argued that both should be able to engage in campaign discourse.<\/p>\n<p>The\u200b judge retorted that President Trump would \u2063be subject \u2064to the \u200csame\u200b restrictions as \u200dany other\u2064 criminal defendant.<\/p>\n<p>Lauro \u200crequested that the prosecutors \u2062specify which information within each \u200ddocument is considered sensitive. Windom deemed\u2063 this request too challenging, and the judge sided with the government.<\/p>\n<p>To the defense&#8217;s\u2064 dismay, the judge denied access \u2062to the evidence \u200cbeyond President \u2062Trump&#8217;s staff \u2062lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>The gag \u2062order applies\u200c to both sides and covers information\u2064 that is\u200c or \u2063becomes public. The\u200d defense \u200dwould need to seek a modification\u200b of the order to release\u2062 sensitive information that becomes publicly available.<\/p>\n<p>The case, brought\u200d by special counsel Smith on August 1, alleges\u2063 a conspiracy to &#8220;impair, obstruct, and defeat&#8221; \u2062the collection and counting of\u2063 electoral votes, conspiracy against Americans&#8217; right to vote, obstruction \u200dof the electoral vote counting by Congress, and conspiracy to obstruct the \u2063electoral\u2064 vote counting.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment argues that President Trump did not genuinely believe that the election was unlawfully taken from him, and his attempts to reverse the results \u2063were therefore fraudulent and corrupt.<\/p>\n<p>On August\u200b 10, Smith proposed January 2, 2024, as the trial start \u200ddate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>order instead, prohibiting both parties from making public statements that could prejudice the trial.
