(AP) \u2014 U.S. Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/rfk-jr-joe-manchin-seduced-make-campaign-moves-based-revealing-new-voter-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Manchin<\/a> said that he has been \u200dthinking\u2064 \u201cseriously\u201d about leaving the Democratic Party and becoming an independent.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/west-virginia-loses-one-remaining-dems-state-senator-makes-huge-announcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Virginia<\/a> lawmaker,\u200c who has\u200d raised his \u2062<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/chuck-schumer-quietly-shutting-down-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-primary-challenge\/\" title=\"Chuck Schumer Quietly Shutting Down Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Primary Challenge\">national profile<\/a> as\u200d a swing vote on major spending packages in\u200c the closely\u200c divided U.S. Senate, made \u200dthe comments on \u2063MetroNews \u201cTalkline\u201d\u2063 on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would \u200cthink very seriously about that. I\u2019ve been thinking about that for\u2064 quite \u200csome time. I haven\u2019t made any decisions whatsoever on any of my political direction,\u201d Manchin said. \u201cI want to make sure\u2062 my voice is \u2064truly an\u200b independent voice, when I\u2019m speaking \u2064I\u2019m speaking about the \u200cgood the Republicans do and\u2064 the good the Democrats continue to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Manchin hasn\u2019t officially announced whether\u2064 he will run\u200c for reelection, but two Republicans, Gov.\u2064 <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/joe-manchin-senate-west-virginia-justice-82a19ba8cb564a45b4b6102bd3f9da8f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jim Justice<\/a> and Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/2022-midterm-elections-donald-trump-west-virginia-joe-manchin-congress-dc64ea009cdee832a3286379ede0bc40\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alex\u2064 Mooney<\/a>,\u2064 have \u200dalready announced their candidacies for his Senate seat.\u2064 The senator had recruited Justice to run for governor as a Democrat before Justice switched to the GOP at a rally for former \u200bPresident Donald \u200cTrump during his first term.<\/p>\n<p>The comments \u2063from Manchin on Thursday are the most serious he\u2019s\u200d made about a possible switch to independent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor\u200b me, I have to \u2063have peace of mind\u2062 basically,\u201d he said. \u201cThe brand has become\u200b so bad. The \u2018D\u2019 brand and\u200d \u2018R\u2019 \u2063brand. \u2063In West Virginia, the \u2018D\u2019 brand\u200c because it\u2019s nationally bad.\u200d It\u2019s not the Democrats in \u2063West Virginia. It\u2019s the Democrats in Washington or\u200d the Washington policies of\u2064 the Democrats.
