We Love The Postal Service!\u2019: AOC Makes The Progressive Case For Expanding The USPS\">annual basis<\/a>, the agency\u2019s director says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are likely to\u200c see this as a recommendation for an annual COVID shot, just like we have an annual flu \u2063shot,\u201d Dr. Mandy Cohen, the director, said in a podcast \u2062episode <a href=\"https:\/\/lemonadamedia.com\/show\/inthebubble\/\">released<\/a> on Aug.\u2064 9. \u201cAnd I\u200d think that will give more folks clarity about should\u2063 they get one or not, because the answer is \u200blike, \u2018Well, did\u200d you get one this year? If not, go get the new COVID shot.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said \u2063that \u2064the CDC will\u200c likely make the recommendation in\u2064 the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will be an annual vaccine \u2026 to make sure that\u200d you stay protected,\u201d Dr. Cohen said.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Cohen was\u200b commenting after Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio), chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives \u2062Select Subcommittee\u2063 on the Coronavirus Pandemic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/23904676-wenstrup-letter-to-cdc\">questioned<\/a> her over \u200dwhat data would support annual shots and asked \u2062for a briefing\u2064 on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Wenstrup gave the CDC until Aug. 16 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pelosi-next-step-is-9-11-type-commission-to-investigate-january-6\/\" title=\"Pelosi: \u2018Next Step\u2019 Is 9\/11-Type Commission To Investigate January 6\">provide answers<\/a>. The agency has not done so yet, a spokesperson for the panel\u200b said.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Cohen had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/cdc-poised-to-recommend-annual-covid-19-shots-director-5431557\">said<\/a> \u200c in July, in one of her first interviews after becoming the CDC\u2019s\u200c director, that the agency was\u2062 poised to recommend annual shots.<\/p>\n<h2>Waning Immunity<\/h2>\n<p>U.S. officials initially said people would only need \u200ba primary series to protect themselves against COVID-19 but in 2021, less than a year after recommending\u2064 vaccination for virtually everyone, they authorized and advised boosters to\u2064 try \u200dto stem <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-vaccine-booster-shots-expected-to-be-available-sept-20\/\" title=\"Report: Vaccine booster shots expected to be available Sept. 20\">waning immunity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As newer\u200d variants have emerged, the vaccines have performed even worse, leading to recommendations for additional boosters and, in the fall of 2022, the clearance of updated bivalent shots from \u2062Pfizer and Moderna. Those shots later replaced the companies\u2019 old vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which decides whether to clear vaccines, said in June that it was directing Pfizer and other manufacturers to update the shots again to target the XBB.1.5 strain because the vaccines \u201cappear less effective against currently circulating variants (e.g., \u200dXBB-lineage viruses) than\u200b against previous strains of virus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But XBB.1.5 has already been \u2063 <a href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/#variant-proportions\">largely displaced<\/a> by other variants,\u200d including EG.5. That undercuts\u200c the new strategy, Dr. Harvey Risch told The Epoch Times\u2064 in an email.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe boosters will be out-of-date before they\u200d are even released,\u201d Dr. Risch, professor \u2063emeritus of \u200depidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health, said. \u201cAs well, \u2064CDC has already said that efficacy of new boosters in preventing spread is transient and wanes, thus there is little reason to see the boosters as beneficial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A CDC spokesperson told The Epoch Times via email:\u2062 \u201cDr. Cohen\u2019s expert opinion is based on the science, which indicates that vaccine-induced immunity wanes \u2062and the COVID-19 virus is likely to continue to evolve. As she has said before, if the science changes, the agency will adapt its recommendations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The COVID-19 vaccines <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/exclusive-cdc-changed-definition-of-breakthrough-covid-19-after-emails-about-vaccine-failure-5414511\">have never been<\/a> 100 percent effective. No trial efficacy data exists for the currently available vaccines, but observational data\u200b indicate they provide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/article\/bivalent-covid-19-boosters-provide-transient-protection-against-hospitalization-study-finds-5191902\">transient protection<\/a> against infection \u200cand severe illness, even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/health\/covid-vaccinated-more-likely-to-be-hospitalized-cdc-data-5335428\">turning negative<\/a> after several months.<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence supporting the idea that the shots provide protection for one year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFederal mandates did not\u200c stop the spread or transmission of the COVID-19 virus. Should the CDC issue a recommendation \u2062for \u2063an annual COVID-19 vaccine, it will mark a \u2062significant change in federal policy and guidance regarding the COVID-19 vaccines and how they\u2064 are utilized,\u201d a spokesperson for the House panel told The \u200bEpoch Times via email. \u201cSerious questions \u200bremain as to whether the science would support such a recommendation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In support of the\u200b planned recommendation,\u2064 the CDC pointed to <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/jmv.28461\">a\u200c modeling study<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/doi\/10.1126\/sciimmunol.abn8014\">series<\/a> of other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/stay-protected-cdc-doubles-down-on-plans-to-recommend-annual-covid-19-shots\/\" title=\"CDC reaffirms annual COVID-19 shots for protection.\">studies highlighting waning immunity<\/a>\u2062 from \u2063the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/is-a-nasal-vaccine-the-answer-to-covid-19-pandemic\/\" title=\"Is A Nasal Vaccine The Answer To COVID-19 Pandemic?\">original shots<\/a>, all of which were based on data from 2022 and earlier.
