And other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mccarthy-fights-to-shore-up-republican-support-ahead-of-speakership-vote\/\" title=\"McCarthy Fights to Shore Up Republican Support Ahead of Speakership Vote\">hard-line conservatives<\/a>, such as Reps. Chip Roy\u2062 (R-TX) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), \u200calready opposed\u200c the request, \u200da sign of\u200d the\u200b growing Republican \u2064displeasure with continuing \u2062to spend funding on\u200b the Ukraine-Russia war.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;No. This should be a non-starter for the @HouseGOP. \u200bIt&#8217;s time to stand up for Americans\u2063 and against the uniparty,&#8221;<\/strong> Roy said on the supplemental funding.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans point to the $113 billion spent in support\u2063 of Ukraine since Russia launched an invasion \u2064in February\u2063 2022, with little sign of a breakthrough over the summer.<\/p>\n<p>As a faction, influential conservative members of the House have pressured McCarthy and GOP leaders to prepare bills with less spending than was agreed to. These\u2063 efforts mean McCarthy \u200bwill likely need Democratic votes to pass the supplemental funding before previous spending \u200con Ukraine runs out at the end of September.<\/p>\n<h3>Marco Rubio&#8217;s Qualms Over\u2064 Disaster \u200cRelief<\/h3>\n<p>Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) has taken issue with the \u200dBiden administration combining the\u2064 Federal Emergency Management Agency&#8217;s domestic disaster relief funding with Ukraine aid.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;President\u2062 Biden is holding Floridians, and other Americans, hostage by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/three-reasons-bidens-latest-billion-dollar-request-is-a-hard-pill-to-swallow-for-gop\/\" title=\"GOP finds Biden's billion-dollar request hard to accept for three reasons.\">tying critical domestic disaster relief<\/a>\u200b to foreign \u2064military aid,&#8221; he said in a statement. \u200b&#8221;This is the type of cynical political\u2063 manipulation \u200dI warned about \u2064earlier this year\u2063 and it further \u2063undermines\u200c trust in the Biden \u2064Administration.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rubio pushed the Biden administration not to give a \u200b&#8221;blank \u200bcheck to \u200bcontinue the status quo&#8221; as\u2062 the Ukraine-Russia war drags on.<\/p>\n<p>Yet other Republican \u200dsenators appear\u200d willing to consider the supplemental\u200b request. &#8220;I look forward to\u200c carefully reviewing \u2063the Administration&#8217;s request to make \u2063sure it is necessary \u200cand\u200c appropriate\u200b to keep America safe, secure our borders, support our allies, and help communities rebuild after disasters,&#8221; Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said in a statement.<\/p>\n<h3>Biden Left \u200cHouse GOP Leaders in the Dark<\/h3>\n<p>Another contention that\u200c could prevent Congress from passing the funding request is the Biden administration didn&#8217;t consult\u2064 with McCarthy or\u2063 other House GOP leaders\u200b while\u200b assembling the package.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And while\u2062 there&#8217;s\u2062 enough bipartisan \u2064support in the House\u200d to push through the new Ukraine money,\u200c the issue will be what McCarthy and\u200b other \u200btop Republicans seek in return,&#8221; PunchBowl\u2064 News reported on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>There is some concern among House Republicans about what will happen in the Senate over the supplemental. The debt ceiling\u2064 deal reached between Congress and the White House capped defense spending in fiscal 2024 at $886 billion, a roughly \u200b3% increase\u2062 from\u200b current levels,\u200c and capped fiscal 2025\u2064 defense spending at $895\u2063 billion, a 1% increase.<\/p>\n<p>But lawmakers such as \u200dSen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC)\u2062 called\u200c for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to bring a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-fights-that-lay-ahead-in-congress-with-debt-ceiling-in-rearview\/\" title=\"Congress faces upcoming fights with the debt ceiling behind them.\">supplemental defense bill<\/a> to the Senate floor to get around\u2063 the defense caps, which McCarthy said he doesn&#8217;t support.
