The committee has\u200d introduced six ballot measures that\u2064 challenge various state laws and programs, including the \u200bcap-and-invest system. \u200dUnder this system,\u200b businesses are\u2062 required to purchase\u200d credits from the \u200dstate for \u2064every ton of greenhouse gas they produce.<\/p>\n<h3>High Gas Prices \u2063and Ambitious \u2062Emission Reduction Goals<\/h3>\n<p>Washington state\u200d experienced the highest gas\u200c prices in\u2062 the \u2063nation \u200dduring \u200dJune and July, surpassing even \u2063California. Prices soared to $4.98 per gallon, \u200daccording to data from auto club AAA.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200bcap-and-invest program in Washington closely resembles California&#8217;s system, which was\u200d implemented in 2013\u2063 with the \u200bgoal of reducing \u200bemissions\u200c by\u2064 80% \u200bbelow 1990 levels by 2050. However, Washington state\u2062 has set an even more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-dumpsters-overflow-and-trash-piles-up-near-global-cop26-climate-summit\/\" title=\"Report: Dumpsters Overflow And Trash Piles Up Near Global COP26 Climate Summit\">ambitious target<\/a>, aiming to lower emissions to 95% below 1990 levels by 2050.<\/p>\n<h3>The Climate Commitment Act and Republican \u2062Opposition<\/h3>\n<p>In 2021, Washington state passed \u2062the\u200d Climate Commitment Act,\u200d becoming the second \u2062state in the nation to establish a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-pac-works-to-repeal-cap-and-trade-as-washington-state-leads-nation-in-gas-prices\/\" title=\"GOP PAC aims to repeal cap and trade as Washington tops nation in gas prices.\">comprehensive \u2064carbon pricing plan<\/a>. However, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-block-hawley-bill-that-increases-penalties-on-child-sex-offenders\/\" title=\"Democrats Block Hawley Bill That Increases Penalties on Child Sex Offenders\">act faced opposition<\/a> from Republicans, who successfully added an amendment requiring the state Department of Ecology to provide an annual report on climate spending.<\/p>\n<p>Republican state \u2062Representative Mary Dye explained, &#8220;I tried to make sure that\u200b we put something \u200din \u2062so \u2063that we know our policies are \u2062working or not.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite ongoing negotiations for more transparency, Let&#8217;s Go Washington\u2064 is determined\u200d to repeal the carbon-cap-and-invest law entirely.<\/p>\n<h3>The &#8220;Stop the Hidden \u2063Gas \u200cTax&#8221; Initiative<\/h3>\n<p>If passed, Let&#8217;s Go Washington&#8217;s &#8220;stop \u200cthe hidden gas tax&#8221; initiative would prevent all state \u200dagencies,\u200b counties, and cities from implementing any form of carbon tax credit trading.<\/p>\n<p>The political action committee is funded by Brian Heywood, a Kirkland businessman and Republican investor.
