This move\u2063 is the first\u200d step in a planned prisoner exchange between Tehran and \u2064Washington, D.C. The exchange will also involve the\u2062 release of approximately $6 billion in Iranian government assets blocked under U.S. sanctions.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1\" style=\"min-width: 320px; min-height: 50px;  text-align: center;\">  \t<script>  \t\tgoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1663871513696-art-1'); });  \t<\/script>  <\/div>\n<div class=\"ad-slot__ad-label\">Advertisement<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>If the\u200c proposed deal is approved, Iran \u200dwill be able to \u200duse the cash exclusively to\u200d purchase food, medicine, or other \u200dhumanitarian items, in \u200bcompliance with \u200dexisting U.S.\u200d sanctions against the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Under the arrangement, Qatar\u2019s central bank would monitor \u2062the\u200b cash, a process that could take weeks to\u200d implement.<\/p>\n<p>The negotiations for this new agreement have been ongoing for months, with Qatar and \u200dother nations \u200dserving as intermediaries.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, \u200cseveral of the arrested Americans were transferred from Tehran\u2019s notorious\u2064 Evin prison\u2062 to a location in the city\u2019s capital, where\u200b they will remain under \u2062house arrest until the prisoner exchange occurs. <\/p>\n<p>According to sources, one of the Americans\u200d was already under \u2063house arrest before Thursday.\u200d In\u200b the past, Americans and other foreign convicts about to be released were placed under \u2063house arrest\u2063 before\u2064 being transferred \u2064abroad.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. authorities have identified Siamak Namazi, Emad Shargi, and Morad Tahbaz as\u2064 the three American\u2062 citizens imprisoned in Iran. The White House\u2062 National\u2062 Security Council has also \u200bconfirmed\u2064 that two more Americans \u200dare\u2062 imprisoned in Iran,\u200d but their families \u200chave \u200bchosen \u200cnot to publicly\u200d identify \u2063them.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWe have received confirmation that Iran \u2063has released from prison five\u200c Americans who were unjustly detained and has placed them on house arrest,\u201d said\u00a0National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWhile \u2063this\u200b is an encouraging step,\u2064 these \u200cU.S. citizens \u200c\u2014 Siamak Namazi, Morad Tahbaz, Emad Shargi, and \u2062two Americans who at this time\u200d wish to remain \u2063private \u2014 should have never\u200c been detained\u2062 in the \u200dfirst place.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>America \u201cwill not rest until they are all\u2064 back home in the United States,\u201d Watson\u200b said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cUntil that time, negotiations for their eventual release\u200d remain ongoing and are delicate. We will, therefore, have little in the way of details to provide about the state of their house arrest or about our efforts to secure their freedom,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>An unknown \u2063number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rnc-to-help-immigrants-prepare-for-part-of-naturalization-test-2\/\" title=\"RNC to Help Immigrants Prepare for Part of Naturalization Test\">permanent legal residents<\/a>, or green card \u2062holders, are being jailed in Iran, including Shahab Dalili, who has been detained since 2016. Only U.S.\u200d citizens appear to be\u2062 involved in the\u2062 prisoner swap.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWhile I hope \u2063this will be\u2064 the first step to their \u200cultimate release, this\u2064 is at best the beginning of the end and\u2064 nothing more.\u00a0But there are simply\u2064 no guarantees about what happens from here,\u201d said Jared Genser, \u2064pro\u200b bono counsel for Namazi.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The families of Americans detained in\u200b Iran claim that \u200btheir\u200c loved ones are being held as\u200b &#8220;hostages&#8221; on false accusations\u200c and used as \u2064bargaining chips by the regime. \u200d <\/p>\n<p>Human rights groups assert that Iran has been kidnapping hostages for decades, using foreign \u2064detainees as leverage against other nations. Iran could only\u200c use the cash for authorized humanitarian purchases.
