This\u2064 special\u2062 session comes\u2063 after a tragic incident at \u2063The \u2064Covenant School in Nashville, where a shooter who identified as transgender took the lives of \u200csix\u200b people. Governor Lee has been advocating for\u200b a variation \u2062of\u2063 a red flag law to prevent such incidents in\u2063 the future. In his <a href=\"https:\/\/tnsos.net\/publications\/proclamations\/files\/2517.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proclamation<\/a> this week, \u2063Lee stated that the session would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-rep-mo-brooks-mass-shootings-caused-by-declines-in-moral-values-respect-for-human-life\/\" title=\"GOP Rep. Responding To 10+ Homeless Tent Fires A Day\">red flag laws<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;Governor Lee&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tnsos.net\/publications\/proclamations\/files\/2517.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">proclamation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  makes it abundantly clear that he is on board with \u200cthe long-standing calls from notable Democrats like Justin Jones and \u200dJoe \u2063Biden to enact gun\u2063 control in \u200dTennessee,&#8221; wrote John Harris\u2062 of \u200cthe Tennessee Firearms Association.\u2064 &#8220;Rather than just being candid and \u2063stating he \u2064wants a Red Flag law, Bill Lee urges for the passage\u2064 of a &#8216;temporary mental health order of protection&#8217; as he did in April 2023 shortly after the Covenant \u200bSchool murders.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The \u200dTennessee Faith and Freedom Coalition, a conservative policy and\u200b advocacy group, has previously urged Lee to cancel the special session and has\u200c vocally opposed red flag laws.
