Additionally, records from the 2010 fiscal year\u200d that were supposed to be transferred from California to Kansas City could not be located. The\u200d lack \u200cof documentation identifying the affected taxpayers\u2064 hinders the IRS&#8217;s ability to notify and protect them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Underfunding and\u2062 Proposed Solutions<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The IRS attributes \u2062this problem to underfunding, claiming that it has been forced to reassign employees responsible for inventories to other tasks. \u2063However, the agency expresses confidence \u2062that as the backlog of non-tax documents is processed, the\u200d missing \u2064records will be\u2063 incorporated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To address these issues, President Joe\u200c Biden&#8217;s Inflation Reduction Act allocated $80 \u200dbillion in new funding for the IRS over the next ten years.
