The training is one of many trainings, such as the upcoming \u201cUnconscious Bias Workshop,\u201d which is also mandatory for students who hold research or teaching assistant positions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The workshop was facilitated by the school\u2019s Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator, Florencio Aranda, and TCU graduate student and former K-12 educator Leslie Ekpe. Aranda has<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/drflorenciouarandalll\/?hl=en\"><span>advocated<\/span><\/a> <span>for students and staff to take part in the 21-day equity challenge which asks people to \u201cdevelop a deeper understanding of how inequity and racism affect our lives and communities.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Ekpe, the other facilitator, has written<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/coe.tcu.edu\/ekpe-writes-about-power-of-educators-for-social-justice\/\"><span>articles<\/span><\/a> <span>about the importance of becoming a \u201csocial justice educator.\u201d In another article, Epke called on K-12 institutions to become \u201canti-racist\u201d to alleviate the \u201congoing racial injustice and global health crisis\u201d of black people.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to materials obtained by The Daily Wire, the training offered three case scenarios wherein students were instructed to stand up to alleged racism.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the first scenario, a coworker opens up about wanting to send his child to private schools because he\u2019s \u201cworried about [his] daughter being in class with those kids.\u201d In the second scenario, a 40-year-old woman at work became visibly upset because she did not get a promotion she thought she had in the bag. The person who did receive the promotion was a 25-year-old Indian-American woman. The 40-year-old woman is upset about affirmative action.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the final scenario, an acquaintance asks you what you\u2019re doing this weekend. You say, \u201cOh, I\u2019m going to a workshop to practice talking about racism.\u201d She looks startled and says, \u201cInteresting. I wouldn\u2019t need that. I\u2019m colorblind. I don\u2019t see race, only the human race.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>All three scenarios were designed to provoke students into confronting coworkers and friends that do not have an \u201canti-racist\u201d worldview.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Another exercise obtained by The Daily Wire shows two columns, the first column has a statement and the second column has possible interpretations. Students were asked to match statements from the first column with possible interpretations in the second column.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>All of these statements are considered \u201cmicroaggressions.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One statement reads, \u201cyou can succeed&nbsp; if you try hard enough.\u201d Possible interpretations include, \u201cyour identity is invalid,\u201d \u201cyou should assimilate to the dominant culture,\u201d \u201cyou are lazy,\u201d and \u201cpeople of your background are unintelligent.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Another reads, \u201cyou speak English very well.\u201d Possible interpretations of this include \u201cBlacks are all criminals\u201d or \u201cYou are not American.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The statement, \u201ceveryone take out your smartphone. Let\u2019s take a poll,\u201d was also considered harmful because people may interpret from the statement that \u201ceveryone has enough money for common items.\u201d Assuming that students have the money for a smartphone while paying $50,000 in tuition does not appear harmful, but according to the training, it is.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Texas Christian University did not respond to requests for comment in time for publication.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
