The chairman had mentioned that he was\u2062 &#8220;on the phone&#8221; during the transcribed interview of Hunter Biden&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hunter-biden-defector-emails-pipeline-to-obama-admin-seen-as-currency\/\" title=\"Hunter Biden Defector Emails: 'Pipeline' to Obama Admin Seen as 'Currency'\">business associate<\/a>. The aide \u200bclarified that Comer was actually &#8220;in constant communication by phone&#8221; with staff \u2063throughout \u2062the testimony.<\/p>\n<p>On the day of Devon Archer&#8217;s transcribed interview, it was widely known that Comer would not be physically present as he was back\u2064 home in Kentucky.\u2063 Transcribed interviews are typically handled by staff,\u2063 although members of Congress have the option to attend \u200band participate in questioning the witness. On this particular occasion, only Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and Dan\u2064 Goldman (D-NY) were in attendance.<\/p>\n<h3>Up for Debate: Trump,\u200d DeSantis, and 2024 GOP Hopefuls&#8217; Stances on Abortion<\/h3>\n<p>However, after the Daily Beast reported that Comer was\u200d not present, he appeared on Fox News to clarify his absence. He stated that he was &#8220;on the phone&#8221; during the\u2062 testimony.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had the staff lead the deposition,&#8221; Comer explained \u200cto the\u200c hosts of Fox and Friends. &#8220;I\u2063 didn&#8217;t want a lot of members in the\u200d room because \u2064that makes the witness uneasy&#8230; I was on the phone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These claims were \u200dmet with pushback from Goldman,\u2062 who was present during the testimony. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/utah-education-board-member-under-investigation-after-social-media-posts-about-schools-brainwashing-children\/\" title=\"Utah Education Board Member probed for criticizing schools' influence on children.\">social \u2062media post<\/a>, Goldman \u200cstated that Comer &#8220;was neither present\u2063 nor on the phone for the Devon Archer interview.&#8221; Additionally, the transcript\u2062 of\u2062 Archer&#8217;s interview does not list Comer as a participant or attendee.<\/p>\n<p>The GOP aide with knowledge of the testimony clarified that Comer was indeed on the phone with Oversight staff, receiving updates throughout the transcribed interview, but not for the entirety of Archer&#8217;s testimony.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the Congressional Integrity Project, a Democratic group responsible for\u200c countering House Republicans&#8217;\u2064 investigations into the \u200cBiden family, filed \u2062a\u2064 complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics. They requested an investigation\u2062 into Comer&#8217;s claim of being &#8220;on the phone,&#8221; alleging that it was a violation of House rules.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Representative Comer has violated the public trust and distorted the truth in violation of the House Rules \u2062and U.S. House Committee on Ethics guidance,&#8221; stated Kyle Herrig, the \u2064executive director of the group in a letter. &#8220;Accordingly, \u2063I \u200burge the OCE to immediately commence an \u2063investigation into Representative Comer&#8217;s actions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\">Click \u2063here<\/a> to read more from The Washington Examiner.<\/p>\n<p>In response\u200b to the ethics complaint, a spokesperson for the Oversight Committee issued a\u2063 statement, dismissing the concerns raised by the \u200dCongressional Integrity Project.
