By doing so, the commission would have the authority to monitor and regulate the use of A.I.-generated images during political campaigns. \u200dThis move comes as concerns grow\u2063 over the potential\u200d for \u200cwidespread deception of voters.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Public \u2063Input and Comment Period<\/h3>\n<p>The public now has a 60-day window to provide comments on the petition. This opportunity allows individuals to express their opinions and concerns regarding the use of A.I.-generated media in campaign ads.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the vote on this matter was postponed in June \u2063due to \u200ca split\u2063 decision among the commissioners. The delay was partly attributed to formatting errors \u2064in the petition, as reported by\u2063 The Messenger. However, Public Citizen made the necessary\u200b amendments in July\u2063 and resubmitted the petition for reconsideration.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth noting that over 50 Democratic members \u2062of Congress have expressed their support for the petition. In a letter to the FEC, they emphasized the potential for generative A.I. \u200ctools to enable candidates to &#8220;fraudulently misrepresent themselves, disrupting the democratic processes that serve our country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Notably, at least two presidential candidates have already utilized A.I.-generated images in\u200d their political\u2063 campaigns.
