This\u200b decision comes after the\u200d 56 inmates filed applications, sparking a heated debate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Governor John Bel Edwards made this move in response to the advisory opinion of State\u2063 Attorney General Jeff \u2062Landry, who is the leading \u200dGOP challenger \u200din the upcoming November elections. Landry urged the state&#8217;s parole board, all of whom were \u2063appointed by Edwards, to consider \u200bthe applications as non-viable. He stated, &#8220;Over the last 20 years in \u2062Louisiana, there have been six exonerations and more than 50 reversals\u2062 of \u2063sentences in capital cases.&#8221; This highlights the importance \u2064of careful review and consideration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">However, Attorney\u200c General Landry criticized the governor&#8217;s actions, accusing him of trying to circumvent the constitutional pardon and parole system.
