I see lots of reasons why he might just want to stay home and hang out.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Regardless of whether \u2062Trump participates, he will still be\u2063 at \u200bthe forefront \u200dof the debates,\u2063 especially after his third indictment, \u200baccording to Weaver\u2062 and McKenna.<\/p>\n<p>Trump \u200dwas\u200c indicted on Aug. 1 \u2062for his \u2063alleged involvement in Jan. 6 and alleged attempts to overturn the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-finally-answers-question-avoiding-years-2020-election-stolen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2020 \u2064election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The former president was also indicted in early June for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-launches-2024-presidential-bid\/\" title=\"Trump Launches 2024 Presidential Bid\">allegedly mishandling classified documents<\/a> and in late March for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-reason-for-trump-to-attend-first-gop-primary-debate-experts-say-heres-why\/\" title=\"Experts say there is no justification for Trump to attend the first GOP primary debate. Here's why.\">allegedly \u200cfalsifying business records<\/a>\u200d when paying back\u2062 a hush-money receipt.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe indictments du jour are not changing\u200b people\u2019s opinion about Donald Trump, so him showing or \u2064not showing for a debate will be watched \u200cby some very interested political \u2064people, but ignored by most Americans,\u201d said Weaver. \u201cIt simply won\u2019t \u2062have much of an\u200b impact on Donald Trump\u2019s numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Though Jon McHenry, a GOP polling analyst and\u200c vice president of North Star Opinion Research, would like to see Trump take\u2064 the stage, he \u200btold\u200b the DCNF the\u2063 former president \u2062should\u2062 avoid debating\u2064 while he can.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf I were advising\u2064 the\u200b former president, though,\u2063 I\u2019d tell him to stay away for as long as \u200dhe can. He\u2019s surely lost five to ten miles \u200ban hour \u200doff \u200dhis fastball, so it\u2019s best\u2064 to keep that from voters \u200das long as \u2063he can,\u201d said \u2064McHenry. \u201cI think Governor Christie is bound to go after someone [in] this debate,\u200d and if it is\u200b not Trump, maybe he\u2019ll pick off another rival.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Former New Jersey Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/chris-christie-gets-harsh-reaction-crowd-goes-offensive-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chris Christie<\/a> \u200bhas been a vocal critic of Trump since the 2020 election and often slams the former president for being \u201cafraid\u201d to debate. Christie, who \u200cran for \u2064the Republican \u2064nomination in 2016 and\u2062 withdrew after coming in sixth in the New\u200b Hampshire primary, \u2063has an RCP average of \u200d2.3 percent.<\/p>\n<p>If the former president doesn\u2019t attend the first debate, other \u2062candidates will likely take aim at \u200bFlorida Gov. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/desantis-uses-executive-order-crack-soros-funded-prosecutor-dereliction-duty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ron DeSantis<\/a> to try and demote him from the second \u200bplace position in the \u2062primary, said \u200dWeaver, who called the governor \u201cvulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cRegardless of whether or not Donald Trump is afraid \u200bto debate, Ron DeSantis is looking forward to being on stage in \u200dMilwaukee talking about his plans to beat Joe Biden, reverse the decline in our nation, and revive America\u2019s future,\u201d Andrew Romeo, communications director\u2063 for the DeSantis campaign, told the DCNF.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>DeSantis\u2062 has been undergoing a reset after \u200ba few tumultuous months on the campaign trail\u2062 and\u2063 a drop in the polls. The governor\u2019s\u200c RCP average\u200d is currently 15.9 percent, \u2064and he has 20 percent support in Iowa, 9 percent support in New Hampshire, 22 percent support in Nevada and 21 \u200cpercent support in South Carolina, <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/polls\/president-primary-r\/2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the most recent polling compiled by FiveThirtyEight.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a big moment for Ron DeSantis because everyone in politics is watching to see whether \u2064he can move\u2063 out of this low \u200csecond position,\u201d Weaver said.\u2062 \u201cHe can \u2062either move \u2063out of it by getting closer to \u200bTrump or he\u200c can get out of it by being knocked out by someone like Chris Christie. I gotta imagine Chris Christie is\u2064 coming loaded\u200b for bear against Ron DeSantis.
