The collision killed Tina Tintor and her dog, Max, and injured Ruggs\u2019 passenger, Kiara Je\u2019nai Kilgo-Washington, \u2062his fiancee and \u2064mother \u200cof their daughter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no excuses,\u201d \u200dRuggs said, \u2062citing pain the case has caused his\u2062 family, teammates and \u200bTintor\u2019s \u200dfamily.<\/p>\n<p>Ruggs said that after prison, he intends to counsel others \u200c\u201cabout\u2062 the dangers of driving at\u2063 unsafe\u200c speed and driving and drinking.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In a\u200b statement read in court by Tintor\u2019s cousin, \u200cDavid Strbac, Tintor\u2019s mother, \u2062Mirjana Komazec, offered grief, grace and memories of \u201cwhat it was like to\u2064 hug and\u2063 embrace her, knowing we will never be\u200b able to kiss her on her\u2063 forehead \u200bor tell her how much we love her and\u200b how absolutely proud of her we are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe pray that Henry Ruggs is blessed\u2064 with the\u2064 opportunity to be able watch his beautiful daughter grow into the amazing woman she can\u2062 be,\u201d Komazec\u2019s statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we pray that this\u200c <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-nfl-star-sentenced-to-prison-over-deadly-dui-crash\/\" title=\"Ex-NFL star jailed for fatal DUI accident.\">terrible accident\u2062 inspires \u200dpositive change<\/a> in the \u2062world. We pray that we all take away the importance of looking out\u200c for \u200done another, remembering everyone we meet is another human\u2019s loved one.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Kilgo-Washington \u200dand a group of friends and supporters watched as Ruggs, wearing a dark suit, white shirt \u2062and blue tie, \u2062was handcuffed by a court officer when Clark County District Court Judge Jennifer Schwartz read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-jury-resumes-deliberations-death-penalty-life-prison-pittsburgh-synagogue-shooter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sentence<\/a>. Ruggs was then \u2064led away.<\/p>\n<p>Ruggs had remained free on house arrest since shortly after the crash.<\/p>\n<p>In court filings ahead of the\u2063 sentencing, Ruggs\u2019\u200d attorneys,\u2062 David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, included\u2063 letters from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/exclusive-interview-white-student-accused-of-sending-racist-messages-to-black-student-investigation-dubs-it-a-hoax\/\" title=\"Exclusive Interview: White Student Accused Of Sending Racist Messages To Black Student, Investigation Dubs It A \u2018Hoax\u2019\">high school administrators<\/a> and teachers in Montgomery, Alabama, \u200cwho praised Ruggs, and a \u200ctestimonial from Democratic Alabama state \u2063Rep.\u2062 Phillip Ensler.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Ruggs is a man of good character who made a terrible mistake,\u201d the attorneys said \u2064in the\u200d presentencing memorandum. \u201cHis remorse \u200dis deep and sincere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His plea deal avoided a trial that Clark County District Attorney Steve \u2063Wolfson said posed obstacles for conviction because Ruggs was not administered a field \u2064sobriety test following\u2063 the crash\u200b and his \u200bdefense\u200d attorneys\u200d argued that Ruggs\u2019 blood-alcohol test was improperly obtained at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Wolfson, a Democrat, \u2062said the blood test provided \u201cvirtually\u201d the only proof \u2064that Ruggs \u200dwas under the\u200b influence of alcohol at the time\u200d of the crash. It revealed\u2063 that Ruggs had a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/pelosis-husband-killed-brother-joyride-accident-65-years-weekend-arrest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bruce-springsteen-freed-of-drunk-driving-charges-slapped-with-500-fine\/\" title=\"Bruce Springsteen Freed Of Drunk Driving Charges, Slapped With 0 Fine\">blood-alcohol level<\/a><\/a> \u2062of 0.16 percent \u2014 twice \u2063the legal limit in Nevada \u2014 after the rear-end wreck ignited a fire in Tintor\u2019s Toyota Rav 4.<\/p>\n<p>Kilgo-Washington also was injured in Ruggs\u2019 demolished 2020 Chevrolet\u200d Corvette. \u200cProsecutors said Ruggs suffered\u2063 a leg injury, and Kilgo-Washington \u200breceived an\u2062 arm injury. Kilgo-Washington \u2062was\u200c not cooperative with prosecutors as a victim in the case.<\/p>\n<p>Wolfson\u2064 had said\u2063 Ruggs would face\u2063 a mandatory \u2064minimum of\u2063 two years in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/convicted-infant-killer-execution-suspended-newsom-moved-womens-prison-reportedly-awaiting-taxpayer-funded-trans-surgery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prison<\/a> if convicted and could get more than 50 years. The district attorney said investigators learned that Ruggs \u2064spent several\u200c hours drinking \u2062with friends at\u200b a sports entertainment site and golfing\u200b venue, and \u2062may have been at a friend\u2019s home for several more hours before he and Kilgo-Washington headed home.<\/p>\n<p>Tintor \u2064was a Serbian immigrant who friends and family members\u2062 said graduated from a\u200c Las\u200b Vegas high school, worked at a \u2064Target store, wanted \u200cto become a\u2064 computer programmer and was close to\u200c obtaining \u2064her U.S. citizenship. The family statement called Max\u2063 her \u200dbest\u200d friend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sentence isn\u2019t going to bring Tina\u200c back,\u201d Farhan Naqvi, an attorney who represented Tintor\u2019s family, \u200csaid\u2063 outside the courtroom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we\u2019re hoping for, more than anything, is \u200cthat \u2063other deaths \u200bcan be prevented from driving under the influence and \u200creckless driving. \u2064It \u2062ruins lives.
