From there, law enforcement made\u200c probable identifications of approximately 311 child victims. <\/p>\n<p>This was known as the three-week \u201csurge\u201d or \u201cOperation Renewed\u2063 Hope.\u201d Authorities also \u2063confirmed the rescue of other minor victims who had been subjected to continuous abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Even though investigators had been struggling to identify the recorded child victims, new face recognition \u200cand artificial intelligence (AI) technology has provided the team with new leads\u2064 in these previous cold\u200d cases.<\/p>\n<p>Detectives forwarded their \u200bnew leads to the appropriate\u200c local law \u2062enforcement agencies once they narrowed down \u200ca\u200c scene or provisionally identified a\u2064 victim. <\/p>\n<p>More than 100 leads were sent by \u2062the operation to the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) field offices and 25 cooperating nations. Some individuals have \u2063already been detained in Canada and in\u200b the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Prado, \u2064deputy assistant director of the \u200dHSI Cyber Crimes Center, \u2064spoke on \u2063the operation with press\u2064 reporters. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe results of Operation Renewed Hope exceeded our wildest expectations in the sense of being \u200dable to identify children who have been abused for,\u2062 in many cases, years,\u201d\u200c Prado stated.\u2062 \u201cImages enhanced \u200dvia AI or machine learning can provide our agents and investigators a \u200cstarting point \u2063to begin an investigation or in some\u2063 cases give us a tentative identification\u200c where we\u2019re sending leads out to the field to confirm the identity and rescue a child.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to Prado, the investigators used context cues to geolocate the data and identify potential victims\u200c and offenders,\u2064 such as the flora and fauna in the images and the species of birds singing on the video.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that in one instance, police were able to\u200c pinpoint a particular campground, then a victim, and finally an abuser thanks to the species of fish detected that the \u200cyoung boy was\u2064 holding in a photograph.<\/p>\n<p>Victims \u2063are offered compassionate care, tools to deal with their trauma and suffering, and\u2064 the chance to testify in \u200dcases against their abusers. Prado\u200d explained that some of the victims, who\u2063 were only infants \u200dor toddlers when the abuse first began and are now adults, never received any counseling or other assistance. <\/p>\n<p>Stay informed!
