Paul\u2019s Issue About Sex Adjustments For Children\">cross-sex hormones<\/a>, \u2062double mastectomies \u200cto make girls appear more masculine,\u200c and sometimes even genital surgeries for older youth.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The AAP authorized the development\u200d of an \u200d\u201cexpanded set\u2064 of \u200bguidance\u2064 for pediatricians based on a\u200b systematic review \u2064of the\u2063 evidence,\u201d the group <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.aap.org\/aapnews\/news\/25340\/AAP-reaffirms-gender-affirming-care-policy?autologincheck=redirected\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in press release on Friday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, AAP leadership also reaffirmed \u200dtheir confidence in the \u2064current guidelines and said they remain\u2063 in the best interests of children.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe\u200c decision \u200dto authorize a systematic\u200b review reflects the \u2063board\u2019s concerns about restrictions to\u2063 access to health care with bans on gender-affirming care \u200bin\u200b more than\u2063 20 states,\u201d the AAP said. \u201cThe AAP opposes any laws or regulations that\u2063 discriminate against transgender\u2063 and \u2063gender-diverse individuals, or that \u200binterfere in the doctor-patient relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Current\u200b Guidelines and Health Risks<\/h3>\n<p>The AAP\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.aap.org\/pediatrics\/article\/142\/4\/e20182162\/37381\/Ensuring-Comprehensive-Care-and-Support-for?autologincheck=redirected\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">current guidelines<\/a> for pediatric transgender medical\u2062 interventions include \u201csocial\u2062 affirmation\u201d of a child who\u2063 identifies as the opposite gender, puberty blockers during puberty,\u200c cross-sex hormones from early adolescence onward, and\u200c \u201ctop\u201d and \u201cbottom\u201d surgeries \u201ctypically\u201d for adults but also for \u2063adolescents\u200b on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n<p>Other surgeries such as \u201cfacial feminization\u201d\u200d can be\u2063 considered\u2062 for adolescents\u200d as well, the \u2062AAP guidelines\u2064 say.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE\u2063 DAILY WIRE APP<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Puberty blockers are dubbed \u2064\u201creversible,\u201d and cross-sex hormones as \u201cpartially reversible,\u201d the AAP\u200b says.<\/p>\n<p>However, both puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones \u200bcome with serious health risks. Puberty\u200c blockers can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/gender-dysphoria\/in-depth\/pubertal-blockers\/art-20459075\">affect<\/a> bone growth\u200c and density and cause sexual dysfunction, \u200dvoice\u200d damage, and infertility, among other \u200bissues. Cross-sex hormones can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/transgender-young-people-in-u-s-have-nearly-doubled-recently-report-shows\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cause<\/a> infertility, \u200ddeadly blood clots, heart \u200battacks, increased cancer risks of the breasts and\u200c ovaries, liver dysfunction, worsening psychological illness, and other serious conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of teen girls in the U.S., some as young as\u200d 12, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medpagetoday.com\/pediatrics\/generalpediatrics\/101252?xid=nl_mpt_DHE_2022-10-17&#038;eun=g394940d0r&#038;utm_source=Sailthru&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=Daily%20Headlines%20Evening%202022-10-17&#038;utm_term=NL_Daily_DHE_dual-gmail-definition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">have \u2063gotten<\/a> elective, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-childrens-hospital-performs-sex-change-procedures-on-children-as-young-as-11-report\/\" title=\"Texas Children's Hospital does sex change surgeries on kids as young as 11, says report.\">gender-related double mastectomies<\/a> to remove their healthy breasts over \u2062the last few years.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, it is more popular\u2064 than ever for youth to adopt new gender identities. An estimated 300,000 minors aged 13\u200b to 17 <a href=\"https:\/\/williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu\/press\/transgender-estimate-press-release\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">identified<\/a> as transgender as of last year.<\/p>\n<h3>Updated Policy\u2062 and Advocates&#8217; Response<\/h3>\n<p>The \u200cAAP\u2019s updated policy will reflect new data and research\u200d on transgender \u200bmedical interventions.\u2063 AAP\u2019s board \u200cregularly reviews evidence and policies and will invite \u201cother \u2064stakeholders\u201d to share \u200cinput on \u200cthe new policy, the group said.<\/p>\n<p>Advocates who\u2064 oppose children\u200c being rushed through transgender medical\u200c interventions hailed the decision to review the policy.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAs it stands, there is \u2063no long-term quality evidence that substantiates the widespread use of puberty \u200cblockers. We do\u2062 not know\u200b how this\u200b will affect children in the long \u200cterm.\u2062 Thankfully, last\u2062 week\u2019s decision by the AAP \u200dto\u2063 acknowledge this galactic gap in the evidence will \u2062highlight \u2063how\u200b there is no evidence\u200c to support the recent surge towards \u2018gender-affirmative care,&#8217;\u201d wrote Stella\u2063 O\u2019Malley, a psychotherapist who works with young people.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>O\u2019Malley is the\u200d director of Genspect, a U.K.-based \u2063group that advocates for doctors to start with the least invasive\u200b approach for gender distress.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Genspect wrote an \u2063open \u2062letter calling on \u200bthe AAP to\u200d update its gender care policy. \u200dThe letter\u200b was <a href=\"https:\/\/genspect.org\/an-open-letter-to-the-american-academy-of-pediatrics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed<\/a> by doctors, psychologists, and \u200ceven one former fellow\u200c of\u200d the AAP.<\/p>\n<p>The AAP is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/american-medical-association-releases-plan-to-embed-racial-justice-in-medical-profession\/\" title=\"American Medical Association Releases Plan To \u2018Embed Racial Justice\u2019 In Medical Profession\">largest professional association<\/a> for pediatricians in the country with 67,000 members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The AAP will review &#8220;gender-affirming care&#8221; for gender dysphoric children, a victory for critics seeking this review.
