Jim Jordan (R-OH), who chairs the committee, wrote in his <a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2023-08-09-jdj-mj-to-wray-re-catholic-dp.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> \u200cto Wray.<\/p>\n<p>The \u200ccommittee launched an investigation into \u200cthe bureau \u2063after FBI whistleblower Kyle\u2062 Seraphin published the document that described a so-called Radical-Traditional Catholics as someone who rejects the Second Vatican Council as a valid church council, shows \u200ddisdain for most of the popes elected since Vatican II, and frequently adheres to anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQ,\u200d and white supremacy views.<\/p>\n<p>During a March congressional testimony, Wray said the memo\u2062 \u201cdoes not reflect FBI standards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not conduct investigations based on religious affiliation \u200cor practices, full stop,\u201d Wray said. \u201cWe have also now ordered our inspection division to take a look \u2063at how this happened and try to figure out how we can make sure something like this doesn\u2019t happen \u200bagain.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>New Document Raises Questions<\/h3>\n<p>But Jordan wrote the new document cited reporting from\u200c an \u201c\u2018FBI Portland liaison contact with indirect access\u2019 who informed on a \u2018deceased [Racially or Ethnically Motivated Violent Extremist (RMVE)] subject\u2019 who had \u2018sought out a\u200b mainline Roman Catholic community\u2019 and \u2064then \u2018gravitated to [Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX)].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition, the document noted how an FBI undercover \u2063employee with \u2018direct access\u2019 reported on a\u200d subject who \u2018attended the SSPX-affiliated [redacted] Church in [redacted] California, for over a year prior to \u200chis relocation,&#8217;\u201d Jordan wrote. \u201cThe document states that FBI\u2019s Los Angeles Field Office initiated an investigation on the\u2064 \u2018RMVE subject.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The revelation, Jordan said, raises questions related to the \u201caccuracy, \u200ccompleteness, and truthfulness\u201d of Wray\u2019s testimony and why the bureau\u200c allegedly redacted such information in previous versions of the document\u200d requested by the Committee.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmaker \u2064also found\u2062 through internal documents\u200b shortly after the leak that at least one undercover FBI employee sought to monitor parishioners \u200cin Catholic houses of worship to\u200d combat domestic terrorism using tripwire and sources.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/catholic-group-sues-doj-fbi-over-failure-to-comply-with-foia-request-detailing-anti-catholic-memo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> the memo \u201cchilling\u201d and issued a subpoena after the\u2062 documents revealed the FBI planned \u2064to use churches\u2062 as \u201cnew avenues\u2063 for tripwire and source development,\u201d\u200c which churchgoers \u2064fear\u200d sent\u200b a\u200b message that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/d-c-mayor-congress-must-open-a-probe-into-security-failures-at-u-s-capitol\/\" title=\"D.C.
